There’s one listed on Facebook for 200 bucks.

It just got me thinking. This guitar is a semi hollow double cutaway a la an ES335.

So it got me thinking what are decent offerings for mere mortals who aren’t wanting to drop 3500 on a Gibson?

Firefly?

Ibanez?

Epiphones I assume no.

Agile? I have an LP style solid body that I love.

This particular one has some Dave Mustaine after market PUPs in it. I’d assume in a hollow body these would squeal and sound horrid.

I also assume I have a 50/50 shot on being wrong until Fret comes along and sets me straight.

Go for it. I have an Ibanez Mikro bass and love it. I think I paid $179.99 for it and it's an awesome little bass.

Go for a Les Paul Tribute ($1300) if you don't want to drop that kind of money on a traditional Les Paul. They're American made instruments with Gibson electronics, but come in satin finish instead of gloss. I've actually had my eye on a honey burst for a bit.

I've played around with a few in guitar stores. It will not fool you into believing it is a ES-335.

However, it is about 60 or 70 percent of an ES-335 for a fraction of the price.

Ibanez is almost like Yamaha in that regard (Yamaha just does so many more instruments, in every category) - if they make it, it is probably fairly decent. If you see folks rave about an Ibanez product or line (like their Artcore series), it probably isn't BS.

The only question is consistency from guitar to guitar and you might need to work a bit to get it set up the way you want. You will also, almost immediately want to upgrade the electronics once you get used to playing it (my generic experience with Ibanez products, not specific to Artcore).

Eastman makes great electrics as well as acoustics.

They're definitely not knock offs, but great stand alone instruments in their own right.

I think I would look at some different Telly Thinline models. You can get one in about any configuration that you could possibly want, or you can build exactly what you want for less than a thousand bucks. You can even get a JA 90 thinline with a set neck and a pair of P-90s.

I just picked up a used Epiphone 335 inspired on Reverb in the Blueberry Burst a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It feels GREAT, plays well for me, has stayed consistently in tune and is absolutely what I've been looking for. I've found no flaws in the finish, the electronics are good and overall I'm really happy with the purchase. A lot of reviews that I've researched are mostly really good from others who have also purchased one. Pics are from seller:

I had one for years. The older ones, made around 2000-2004 are really good. The newer ones are made with cheaper materials, and almost feel like plastic.

Nah. I am good.

I’ve mentioned my Agile on here before. The previous owner put Slash Seymour Duncan’s on it. So it is already a better LP than I ever hoped to own. I got to play a custom shop Gibson once. That blew my Agile away. Nothing else has. They’ve been better but never blown away.

$200 for this guitar is a really good deal. These Ibanez artcores are pretty good, especially for the money.

About 5 years ago I wanted a cheap semi hollow and played quite a few things under $750 or so. Epiphones, Artcores, Gretsch, etc.

I ultimately pulled the trigger on a $400 Ebay Agile 820 that had Gibson 57's installed. It plays noticeably better than all the above, and the 57's absolutely rip.

Agile 820

Sounds like a solid guitar at a sweet price.

I love mine. Whenever I get all "Horton Heat" I have used it for 1 man shows. I can play it like an acoustic, or bend em when needed. I switched to 10s...
