My first thought as well even though he said it wasn't Natalie Merchant thank you.

Oh maybe the song that goes when "youre ready come and get it.
na na-na nuh
na na-na nuh"

I guessing he's the type that's going to find it and not report back to us the answer.

Given that "Kind and Generous" is all that showed up when I googled /Natalie Merchant's "Thank You"/ as he wrote in his first post, I bet (hope) that's not it.

Yes, it is very close. So close I will search through some of her songs to see if it was something else she did.

That should be an enjoyable search. Suzanne Vega has a lot of good stuff.

You might also look at Shawn Colvin, a singer/songwriter I haven't seen mentioned here.

Not sure what gave you that impression, but if I ever do figure it out of course I will report back here.

Oh and definitely not Selina Gomez.

Solved!

First of thanks for all your help.

Second, my clues, sparse as they were, sucked. The "na's" in my post apparently should have been "la's".

I almost posted that I thought the singer was french, but since that kind of thing can be hard to determine, I left it off.

Without futher ado:
Artist: Yael Naim (French-Israeli)
Song: New Soul

I'm a new soul, I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la
La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la

See I'm a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate? Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la
La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la, ooh

This is a happy end 'cause you don't understand
Everything you have done, why is everything so wrong?
This is a happy end, come and give me your hand
I'll take you far away

I'm a new soul, I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
(New soul)
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la
(In this very strange world)

La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
(Every possible mistake)
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la
(Possible mistake)

La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
(Every possible mistake)
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la
La-la la la, la-la-la-la la la
La-la-la-la la, la-la la, la-la la

Was right about the recent(ish) commercial.

Yael Naïm, is an Israeli-French singer-songwriter. She rose to fame in 2008 in the US after her hit single "New Soul" was used by Apple in an advertising campaign for its MacBook Air. The song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100

I figured it out from the ad. Basically combing through songs from ads from the past few years.

ETA her wiki page in care you really care.

I would've never guessed that. This is my first time hearing this song. I dig it; it's not bad

ETA: She reminds me of Rosario Dawson a bit

AlxTgr "Can't Get You Out of My Head" is a song recorded by Australian singer Kylie Minogue.

Also want to give some credit here.

One of the things I found while researching this is that:

1. A lot of people are trying to track down songs that have "la la la" or "na na na" in them. It's a thing.

2. Apparently a lot other people have made the mistake of confusing "na" for "la" and vice versa. For example Kylie Minogue is saying "la la la" but a lot of people hear "na na na."

3. So I figured I might be making the same mistake and broadened my already ridiculously wide search. That (along with the advertising clue) lead me to the answer.

So once again, sorry for the weak and even misleading clues and thanks to everyone for their efforts.
