Yea since when does having a good time at a certain venue a few years in a row make it hallowed.

I also don't understand why one jam band has to be "better" than another. I like the contrast in style..I like watching how two different bands play back to back, and see how the crowd responds. Few years ago at Jazzfest, Govt Mule rocks the crowd, has everyone about as amped as they could get, and WP comes out with the mellow vibe and bongos and shite.. It was just a really smooth transition..
Oh and the Gorge Amphitheatre, State Palace, Red Rocks, Stubbs and Shoreline Amphitheatre are pretty nice places to visit as well

The Gorge and Red Rocks are easily the two most beautiful venues on the continent. Shoreline is ok, doesnt really have that great of sound and is kinda run of the mill amphitheater.
State Palace definitely has history. I can't wait to see shows when it is fully restored.
I've never been to Stubb's. Haven't been to ATX since I was a kid.

They don't and most people get that. It's just the noobs over at PT who think they have to hate on one band to validate theirs. Truth is they sound like morons and know jack shite about music. That's fairly obvious

Blue Indian while I agree with what you are saying in some aspects, they are different, it is not a competition, you seem to be heavily involved in these arguments every time. If you just did not respond to whoever said wsp sucks then we wouldn't derail a pretty interesting and funny thread.
I personally think that phish's musical talent is way ahead of panic but that is my opinion, I have been to a number of wsp shows and enjoyed myself. I almost always enjoy myself at a live concert.
That being said your comments about phish fans could just as easily be applied to a portion of the die hard panic fans. I would probably enjoy panic a lot more if three of my best friends didn't play them nonstop when I lived with them.
One main difference is when phish comes out of jam they hit the 5th gear so to speak with a wild instrumental piece. It seems to me that when panic comes out and hits their next level, a lot of times it is with a vocal refrain. Just something I have noticed.
I personally think that phish's musical talent is way ahead of panic but that is my opinion, I have been to a number of wsp shows and enjoyed myself. I almost always enjoy myself at a live concert.

And yes that was 2007 when I lost it. And to everyone who thinks bonnaroo was going down hill, that was a great festival. I like it when festivals mix musical styles.
Off the top of my head Tool was amazing, Ben harper was great, I saw a little bit of the police which was cool. Front row for ratdog, cheese, great superjam. Mule with bob weir and John Paul jones on stage was epic.

First off quality post. You're right I shouldn't but it's entertaining so whatever. I know it's stooping to their level but IRL I would and have just brushed people like this off. There are panic fans who are just as annoying but the Phish fans are always battling someone whether it be wsp or sci or whoever. Biggest music snobs in the scene. I used to be one to some extent.
As for musician talent. As a whole I'd agree that in their heyday the Phish was an unstoppable machine who no one in history of this genre could touch them note for note. But to me music is so much more than that. It's about the whole experience and that's why I love wsp. All of their music, not just their jams speak to me and I connect with them. I like their southern flair, and that edge they seem to have. Their dark jams and their changes. I love both bands so much.
I disagree with you saying panics next level only being a vocal refrain. Yes JB does his raps and they can be golden, but the band does both IMO. They approach things more like the allman brothers to me. I'm sure they would hate me for saying that but it's true.
Btw I wish Phish still had that 5th gear you speak of. Still a great band but they seem to be stuck in automatic now a days

I think I misunderstood what you were saying about the voacal refrain when I first read it...Sorry I was doing other things. I see what you mean and thats the main difference in the bands to me. It's also why I have said both bands do different things to me. It's why they are apples and oranges. I think Panic's set's have much more flow to them now a days. I personally believe Phish should start planning their setlists out like they used to...Prime example would be the frick YOUR FACE night at dick's this past year

A few things about phish, I think their ballads and songs are much more emotional these days and I think that is the defining aspect of them now. See While My Guitar Gently Weeps from Oak Mountain last year off the top of my head. I think songs like Back on The Train, Circus comes to town, col forbin etc are really getting some love and deservedly so.
I loved the old phish but they have evolved and honestly some nights I think they are better than they ever were. They have short, tight controlled jams that are musically perfect IMO. Sure they miss some nights but they always have done that. The ambient jamming into a wild finish of the past was great but I think there is a higher level of commitment and beauty to the actual written songs now as well as hitting th 5th gear in certain spots. And nobody can bring the house down to close a second set like they do when they are on.
Phish means a lot to me because it brought me and my brothers closer and helped me through a lot of tough times. And nothing puts a bigger shite eating grin on my face than driving up to the lot for a phish show, it is happening right now just thinking about it.

To each their own. I didn't agree with much of anything you just said there but I think it's awesome you feel that way. That is what music is about. What it can do for you personally.
I can barely stand the ballads. They just don't bring it like they used to and never will IMO. I agree they have moved on from that era. I don't ever really listen to these newer shows more than once after I went. Not much relistening value to me personally. They are getting better with each tour, but in no way are they ever going to touch what they used to do IMO. I disagree about the level of commitment being higher now. They are more refined musicians who are sober so they do nail the compositions LATELY. I remember when they first came back it was a struggle for times for Trey and Fish. But also they used to actually practice. It is painfully obvious to me that those days are long gone. But there is an interview with Trey 20 years ago asking him what he wanted to be doing in 20 years. He said less Phish and more composing music with orchestras and with TAB. Well that is what he is doing and you can't hate on him for that. I completely respect Trey for that.
