Does anyone here have any experience building waterproof speakers? I built a speaker out of a 45qt Yeti and it is impressively loud and clear but I want to build something with some bass and more multidirectional sound.

I’m thinking about using MDF and then fiberglassing over it to make the box for the new speaker but I’m open to suggestions if anyone has experience making waterproof speaker boxes.

Here’s a few pics and specs for my yeti speaker build.

2x JL Marine 8.8
JL MX500/4 amp
JL Bluetooth module
60Ah lithium battery

I can't look at anything online regarding hunting and boats without those turtleboxes showing up in an ad. Not sure iff good or not, or you were looking more for homemade stuff. I think Igloo made one as well.

I’m looking to make another homemade one. The turtle boxes are cool but I’m looking for something much louder.

The yeti sounds like you’re at a concert but I’m looking to build something with more bass.

StewMac, sells mahogany speaker box kits.
LINK
There's a reason that they like to build boats and yachts out of mahogany. It's also a great tonewood.
After you put the cabinet together, you could completely waterproof it with Aqua-seal brand clear or liquid glass.
I've used the aqua-seal clear lots of times and it is fantastic stuff.

Now one thing to think about: Are the actual waterproof speakers that you plan to use, capable of producing the amount of bass that you want?
I suspect they are not; due to the materials they have to be made from.

I notice that the front of that kit, where the speaker mounts, is made of particle board. You would want to replace that with something better.
You can buy PVC sheets from machine supply stores in different thicknesses, it's not cheap though.
Maybe marine grade plywood?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a big waterproof JBL?

Thanks for the info. Mahogany is a good idea.

I plan on adding a subwoofer to the new speaker I will be building.

Yes, I'm sure significantly cheaper but nowhere near as loud/impressive as what I'm looking for.

It sounds like a cool project.
If you believe in it and are willing to put in the effort.

Seems like a waste of an ice chest. And they make similar chests that are cheaper from different brands.

And waterproof speakers have been a thing for a while.

Dude, they make JBL speakers that are 4ft tall and have built in dancing lights. Your yeti will be more impressive than that? Will it give me a handjob?

My current one is more impressive than that, the next one will blow it out the water.

It won’t give you a handjob but I’m sure you can beg your boyfriend for a reach around.
