About 1980 I bought a bootleg album (mostly because it's fun how they jack with the facts on purpose of course and the obscurity) titled Grateful Dead Orpheum Theater Boston, Mass.

On the cover is the Dead from SNL, Bobby in bunny ears. The setlist on the back is obviously JGB. I absolutely fell in love with it. The date? 12/2/77 early show. It just rips.

I disagree about the JGB peak that I would say is 80-84. But will add Jerry Band was pretty darn up to the end. I thought Fall 93 was great, the last time I saw Jerry Band.

don't really listen to anything post-Brent, I feel like that's a line of demarcation.

I'm the same way. They had such a chemistry on stage and that went missing fall of 90

Really not fan at all of post-Brent Dead. Welnick was terrible with that Casio keyboard sound and Hornsby really didn't fit....He can play obviously but doesn't have that Dead soul.

Spring 90 tour is fire.

I got to see them 6 times from 93-95, obviously not the best years, but it was the grateful dead nonetheless.

My first show was in 93 at giants stadium and they started the 2nd set with bertha. I could feel the connection of every person in the stadium, it was like the scene in the blues brother where the light shines down in the church, I SEE THE LIGHT!

The grateful dead and live music has been my church ever since.

While I do agree with the Brent sentiments in this thread, Fall 90 was pretty darn good. I was at every show on that tour. The second night in Philly as well as the last two at the garden were excellent. They were cruising on momentum for sure. Vince was a terrible pick.

They made it worse by handcuffing him into playing that awful sounding keyboard.

Don't know the story behind his instruments but this sounds very unGrateful Dead. He just wasn't good enough. They might as well have thrown me onto the Boston Celtics. Kinda like like when Clemons sat in with JGB in 89, but worse.

Not really. Bobby didnt even want vince to have a full tour salary either.

Bob Bralove had full control of vince’s sound and would change it mid-show from the sbd.

They also forbid him from playing the organ.

They picked vince because he was a good, not great, keyboard player, but more so for the high vocal harmonies.

Im not claiming vince was great or anything, although samba in the rain does get stuck in my head for days, BUT the band made things much much worse for him.
