Saw the UYI tour when it came to the Superdome. Axl was pulling his usual schtick of making the crowd wait three hours but the funny thing was nobody cared because there was a camera for the overhead screens in the Dome and it kept pointing at hot chicks and every one of them were flashing various body parts. Nobody cared if Axl ever came out. When the band finally came on Axl made some remark about New orleans people must not be able to stay up very late. A guy in the front row said "you're putting us to sleep". Axl said "oh I'm putting you to sleep?" lol. GNR actually put on a blistering set that night.

Yes. It was Faith No More, Metallica, and then GnR. Hetfield still had the cast on his hand

Well, to be fair, Izzy was such a raging drug addict that he had to literally have his dad come from Indiana and rescue him. When he came back ("where's Izzy?", anyone?), he was totally straight, which simply meshed with nobody.
The only impediment to this reunion all along has been Axl's utter refusal to deal with Slash. I've read autobiographies of 3 of the 5 and I still find it weird that that's the big roadblock, but it is.
I am highly skeptical that Axl has changed his tune on this, so I give less than a 1% chance to a 2016 reunion (or really ever.)
However, if they do reunite, then I think Axl will slim down and be in fighting mode. Duff is in good shape and Slash is just fine. Not as sure about Izzy, but he should be good. And I personally wouldn't consider it a reunion (and would boycott) if they had Sorum instead of Adler. I think Adler can pull it off if he had to.
There's no question at all that Adler got fricked over the most of any of them.
But this isn't going to happen.

I'll add again how charged I am for this Paragon show. GNR was THE band that defined my youth. Seeing Slash live will be like reliving the past.

How so? Adler was THE drug addict in the band & was fired because he could no longer play concerts. This is the only positive thing I'll say about Axl.....he GAVE Adler $5M which is why Adler won't say anything negative about Axl.

To be fair, they were all drug addicts until Izzy sobered up - and even then, he had to travel separately to try to stay sober. But, Adler was in the worst shape at the bottom, no question.

To give him some credit, he seems to have gotten most of that message during his stint on Celebrity Rehab - he said, "If you want your addict to really consider getting clean, film them fricked up and show it to them when they're sober."
And, he seems to have buried the hatchet of late with Sorum, them having shared duties at some one-offs and such (like the HOF, etc.).

Adler piped up and said "that seems sort of fair, let's give Axl 25%" (thinking that his band-mates would split up the 5% amongst themselves). But even worse, they evidently conned him into signing something that took away his 15%. It was so egregious that when his mom forced him to sue, a court awarded him back his 15% + like $2 Million in damages or back earnings. And this was right at the time...like within a year or 2.
Normally, I wouldn't believe just one side when all were drug-addled, but I think the court decision - and so quickly - lends him credibility on the topic.
Also, the narrative has become "he couldn't play - either live or in the studio". The band famously used the tripping incident at Farm Aid '90 against him as well as his supposedly poor performance at that same concert on Civil War. You can watch on youtube and decide for yourself. IMO, the trip was CLEARLY just an excited drummer trying to get out there quickly. They tried to portray it as if he were so high he couldn't even walk. It's BS. He pops up in less than one second and gets behind the kit. And the Civil War performance is perfectly OK.
I understand that later on it took him 60 takes or whatever to do Civil War in the studio. I'm not saying he was perfect. But he has been the convenient whipping boy when they all have massive flaws - and they treated him poorly.
Adler was a kid who liked to play and screw and couldn't believe he ended up in such a successful band (that HE started, BTW). He will advise you to go look back at liner notes, videos, etc. and compare his face with the other 4 faces. He is almost always smiling and full of glee because he enjoyed it so much. The others are a bunch of dour sourpusses.

Adler was by far the most fricked of them all. Have you hear heard him speak after that stroke? He has struggled with sobriety for years even after that. I just can't see this guy staying on the wagon for 3-4 years for a GNR reunion. Not with the money, touring, and craziness that will come along with it.

I think he had 2 strokes - and worse problems than just alcohol - no question. However, he just bought a $1.4 million house in Studio City. He's 50 and has kids. Maybe he's settled down enough to remain stable on tour. I understand that you put an addict back into his old environment, and he's more likely to relapse. But it's not like he hasn't been playing, on and off, this whole time, doing shows, etc.
I don't care if it happens or not - GnR came along right as I was becoming an "adult" adult - so I don't have the affinity for them that those born in the early to mid 1970s have. But, at their best, they were a great rock and roll band.

I think I'm a decent piece older than you and I love them. I also reject the anti-UYI sentiments heard in this thread. Both albums are crushing masterpieces, even though they were "different" than Appetite.
