Glad to see so much love for Warren Zevon.

quote:

Well I lay my head on the railroad track
Waiting on the Double E
But the train don't run by here no more
Poor poor pitiful me

Big ups to Paul Simon for a couple of winners too. Both the dense and wordy

quote:

I am just a poor boy though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm

and simple, clever pop goodness

quote:

I should have known you'd bid me farewell
There's a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well
Now I know you're not the only starfish in the sea
If I never hear your name again, it's all the same to me

Zevon was a damn genius. The older I become the more I appreciate his work.

Great call out on Gordon Lightfoot earlier, too.

My contribution..

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality

You want to know what Zeus said to Narcissus?
You'd better watch yourself.

Stones are my all-time favorite amd i could go on for days about their opening lines but my favorite is something else:

“Some folks are born,
Made to wave the flag,
Ooooh the red, white, and blue!”

I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside, I feel the scream
This terrible silence stops me

Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance 'Neath the cover of October skies

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the rising sun
And its been the ruins of many a poor boy

And now I know
Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say
I thought I knew
But now I know that rose trees never grow
In New York City...

Trailer for sale or rent, rooms to let, fifty cents.
No phone, no pool, no pets, I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means, king of the road...

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day

Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow

Confidence is a preference for the habitual voyeur
Of what is known as
(Parklife)

Holy man tiptoed his way across the Ganges
The sound of magic music in his ears

I remember thinking murder in the car
Watching dogs somersault through sprinklers on tiny lawns
I remember the graffiti

All those dirty words (Jusqu' la fin)
They make us look so dumb (En plein soleil)
Been drinking far too much (Jusqu' la fin)
And neither of us mean what we say (En plein amour)

I met him in a crowded room
Where people go to drink away their gloom
He sat me down and so began
The story of a charmless man
Educated the expensive way
He knows his claret from his Beaujolais
I think he'd like to have been Ronnie Kray
But then nature didn't make him that way

Early one morning
The sun was shining
I was laying in bed
Wondering if she had changed at all
If her hair was still red

“It’s in the way that you use it....”

I love the way Clapton just dove right into the song from the first second.
