When Rock 92.3 WCKW was in its prime - late 80's - early 90's - I could listen to it 24/7
that was my favorite station, stevens & pruett in the morning, & rock music the rest of the day. they played 70's, 80's, & new rock in the 90's when soundgarden, nirvana, metallica, pearl jam was coming out with new albums, best radio station ever

Two of my all-time radio station promos:

"Broadcasting live, from the 42nd floor of Plaza Towers, overlooking the Superdome and Downtown New Orleans, WCKW, Rock 92.3."

And...

Descending horns, "WBRH, Baton Rouge... (Dog growls, snarls) Rocks, like a Big Dog." Early 90's, before they went jazz.

100.7 in Baton Rouge when it was a rock station
100.7 The Tiger.

I got in my car leaving work one night, and they kept playing "It's the End of the World as We Know it" by REM repeatedly. That was them signing off the air.

The next morning, they were country. Sad day. I still miss The Tiger.

As much as I hate to admit it......91.1. KNLU from 1990-2000. It was just flat out amazing...

They use to be 88.7, and that station pretty much raised me.
I was only about 7 or 8 when the dail on my crappy radio broke, and I listened for hours on end, never regretting one minute.

Remember they use to sign off at midnight with the same saying while Enjoy the Slience by Depeche Mode played.

My bad. It was WJDX 102.9. Changed callsign to WZZQ in the 70s.

Q's Perez Hilton is a radio-survivor; he's been part of the Supertalk morning show for years. LINK

Morning man Bill Fitzhugh was on Sirius/XM after writing a few books based on his time in the Beasley Road studios. LINK

And it's been years since they've done it, but WPRG/KLSU's "listener's classified" segment (tickets, rides, weird junk for sale, etc.) was a direct lift from ZZQ.

In Nola it had to be WRNO especially in the 1970's and 1980's you had the album hour where you could get new music from all types of good acts, the King Biscuit Flower hour on Sundays. There was always good rock on there.....very influential station, I used to work with a Cuban guy who when I told him I grew up in NOLA smiled and would say "WRNO, THE Rock of New Orleans" Said he and his friends used to catch it all the time in Havana after dark.

WCKW 92.3 in the late 1980's and early to mid 90's was great at the classic format but also introduced new rock " It doesn't have to be old to be Classic Rock"

100.7 the Tiger in BR....the music was always good, but the station also unleashed Richard Condon on an unsuspecting world

107.5 The Pig in Memphis. A very eclectic mix or rock , blues, folk alternative country. In one hour you could hear the North Mississippi All Stars, The Rolling Stones, Jack Johnson, Albert King and Lyle Lovett among others
