And white Randy Jackson's voice can be an acquired taste.

POCO should have been bigger, too. They sort of got caught in the shadow of The Eagles but were actually on the scene before them.

Atlanta Rythm Section. They did some great music. The guitarist is off the chart. Anyone know his name?

They're an old band. I think the late Barry Bailey was the main guitarist in their heyday.

Zebra was the first to come to mind.

I think Randy Jackson is quite underrated as a guitar play, esp his acoustic work.

The Zombies. If nothing else for coining the phrase "who's your daddy" into pop culture.

Paul and George are credited on some of their songs and members of the band played on "All Things Must Pass". And considering The Beatles owned Apple Records at the time....that was my takeaway.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I've never read about any reluctance on their part.
The Mal biography that came out in late 2023 walks through the whole thing in detail. Pretty interesting.

They were originally called the Iveys when Mal brought them to everyone's attention at Apple and they languished in "almost signed" territory for quite some time. If Mal hadn't have pushed it, they almost certainly would never have been signed. It's also completely crazy that he was allowed to produce the song, but it worked.

Lone Justice
The Rainmakers (unless being massively huge in Norway is the way)
Starz

Tempted to put The Cult on here. They were big around Electric and Sonic Temple but they should have been bigger then they disappeared off the face of the earth.

Sand Rubies are another band that fits this thread perfectly. Due to an unfortuate choice of band names (The Sidewinders), they got caught up in a legal battle and ultimately had to change their name after establishing momentum. While this all was playing out, some of the band members departed, leading to the demise of the band. Tragic because they were so early on the scene in the mid-late '80s and firmly entrenched in Replacements, Smithereens, and Gin Blossoms territory, poised to break just the same. Pearl Jam even opened for them at one point. Their 1993 self-titled album was so solid throughout.

I don't know, man. They were pretty big, but they could not sustain stardom past 1975 or so. Most of their members were pulled into other bands (Eagles, Loggins & Messina, etc.). If the 1972 version of them stayed together and they could have gotten along, they basically would have been the Eagles.

Sand Rubies

I still have Auntie Ramos' Pool Hall and Witchdoctor on vinyl (Sidewinders)... I prefer them both to the Sand Rubies record.. They were a fun band.. I think they were more of a college rock band who were probably a little too early to catch on with the alt rock boom of the 90s...

I feel the same about the Blake Babies... broke up a little too soon..
