The guy is predicting that these albums will get the most mentions on critics' year-end lists. He isn't saying these are the best albums of the year.

IMO nothing else, short of a Tool release, tops Like Clockwork.
I enjoyed Portugal. The man
Have yet to check out this MBV
Evrything else i cant see myself checkingout without a good recomendation. Just cant do hip-hop/rap anymore.

I've only heard two Like Clockwork songs (I Sat by the Ocean and If I had a Tail), but I really liked both. I look forward to hearing the whole album.
I'd definitely recommend that Kurt Vile album. It is really good stuff.

I think its sad that we can predict critical consensus 6 months before it happens. Also, while I think Hyden is right that these will be among the most critically praised albums (half are unreleased), I'm only interested in about two albums on that whole list, and neither of them am i that passionate about.
I feel completely out of the loop. I just have nothing in common with someone who would like the general critical consensus.

Which two?
Arcade Fire is one I would imagine.

From what I can tell from the first 2 singles, Arctic Monkeys' AM is gonna be fiya.

Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine. And to be honest, MBV is driven by nostalgia more than genuine interest.

I dont even see a point in putting out a list like this..

The lsit ins't the point. It's the article about how critical consensus forms before things are even released mainly because pop music is so spread out and compartmentalized. There needs to be this forced consensus because it doesn't exist in our listening habits.

I thought for sure you would be stoked about Tune-Yards.

I didn't really like their debut, which is incredibly fawned over. I'm not rushing out to buy the follow up.

I was just kidding. I was pretty sure you wouldn't be a fan. For the record, I couldn't really stand that record either and have minimal interest in the next one.
