GARCIA LIVE VOL 17, NORCAL '76
jerry garcia
john kahn
keith and donna godchaux
ron tutt

this is the best (IMO) of the various JGB lineups, and the sound and playing on this is spectacular. it also contains my very favorite JGB track, "catfish john"

highly recommend if you like your jerry pure and uncut

if you listen to this release and come away thinking donna sounds anything but perfectly complimentary to the music i'd be surprised

really, she sounds great on this

I think 76 is donnas best year in the dead too.

She came back from the break strong.

I listened to NORCAL over the weekend and enjoyed it but im more of a completist and like to hear whole shows (warts and all), not songs pieced together from different shows.

A bunch of the songs came from a show at my alma mater so thats cool i guess.

i dont think they had the complete tapes for these shows, these are part of the returned betty boards that were in the flooded storage unit for decades. JGB shows are really just two back to back song sets anyway, this release is the equivalent of a typical show, if not even a couple songs longer.

and i agree, 1976 was donna's year

'76 was kinda slow. Much prefer the '80-'84 tempo and lineups. Plus I was touring heavily then and Garcia came around at least twice a year and the venues were small and or gorgeous. But...Ron Tutt. Will look through the HDs for these '76 shows and see what I have.

I just really don’t want to give any of my money to Deborah Koons.

you won’t be

the Garcia archives are owned by mountain girl, all of Jerry’s daughters and manasha . Royalties are paid to the songwriters plus the band members’ estates
