re: Friday Music Board Challenge: Tupac vs. Biggie

I never really got into rap. My parents, friends, and grandparents had me turned on to country early on, and that's always been my main genre. That said, I can appreciate good rap when I hear it. Too bad there isn't any mainstream enough for me to hear now.

There's only a few modern hip hop artists I like. As much as I like The Chronic, I think it changed the game and not in a good way. The Cult of the Producer is great for those handful of great producers like Dre and Prince Paul, but I just think a lot of the modern guys like the wordplay and flow of the older generation.

Of course, there are huge exceptions. Talib Kweli and Mos Def are both amazing, and I'm a big fan of the Cunninlynguists. But by and large, I pretty much tuned out after Public Enemy stopped being relevant.

Biggie simply because he was the best to ever pick up a mic. LINK Nuff said.

Nothing against Pac. He was great but I think his music gets more credit due to his persona/celebrity. I'm not saying Pac isn't a great lyricist but he is not on Biggie's level.
