I've always been a huge supporter of the Foo's but I'm not quite sure what to think of this album. Thoughts?

I'm listening to the title track right now.

They've been listening to too much RHCP. Someone should remind them they're the Foo Fighters, not the RHCP.

Just my initial take.

Same as their last 50 songs.

Begins with a mellow guitar with a subdued vocal over it
All other instruments work their way in
Breaks into a repeated whisper/talk chorus
Grohl begins to scream a repeated mundane lyric
The song mercifully ends

Tracks 2, 3, 4... Lather, rinse, repeat.

Rain the downvotes, but the foo fighters have always sucked. They fricking blow.

However, Everlong is an incredible song and by far their best contribution to music. No idea how they wrote it, because their other shite is absolute garbage.

Foos are fine but haven’t been a fan of Dave getting this throne where he’s the savior of rock music. I think that is a strong commentary of how weak rock is not how great they are.

Sure they put out fine enough guitar driven music but there’s just no edge to it or anything - it’s fun for the whole family and that fundamentally misses something at the core of the genre. .

I've always been a big fan, but man, there's a reason they dropped Shame Shame & Waiting on a War ahead of the album.

It's not terrible, but I'm not exactly in a hurry to listen to it again

Agreed. 30-40 years ago, Foo Fighters wouldn’t have made anyone blink in the rock world. They’ve benefited from Grohl’s lingering celebrity and talent at self-promotion and the death of rock music in the mainstream. They’re pretty much a museum piece...mixing the candy-coating of The Beatles with watered-down punk. In a world of endless club swill and autotune, they’re certainly listenable... but overrated.

You're right they have no edge. I don't get that emotional feeling I get from bands like Deftones, Tool, Chili Peppers, or Chevelle.

The Colour and The Shape & There is Nothing Left To Lose are both great records. I don’t care what you say.

I wouldn’t say they’ve always sucked but They’ve been going through the motions for a long time. I still maintain the original ray gun album is my favorite. Album had fricking energy. Probably nostalgia but definitely one of my favorite teenage albums.

They’ve been a solid rock band for 25 years. It’s pretty hard to keep up the quality for that long. They’re in their 50’s now and are still making respectable rock and roll even if it’s a bit watered down. They aren’t a favorite of mine by any means but the longevity of the band is admired. That’s a long haul.

It' solid.
I like it better than Concrete and Gold.

Their self titled debut was badass, front to back. Colour and the Shape was fine but even then it didn't really grab me aside from the highlight songs. Half of it I can do without. Every album after I checkout and I'm always just like eh...whatever.

There is Nothing Left to Lose is their best album front to back IMO. It doesn't have crazy standout hits like Hero, Everlong, Monkey Wrench, but there are no duds on this album. The whole thing is a very enjoyable listen and has aged well.

Wasting Light is a great one and while not my favorite, Concrete & Gold has some good tunes. Other than that, everything since TINLTL has been average.

Not a fan of this album, and I didn’t care for Concrete and Gold either.

Sonic Highways was meh, but had a couple cool songs “Something From Nothing” and “Congregation” are both kinda cool.

I really liked Wasting Light, but haven’t enjoyed much from them since.
