I really don't know how to express my thoughts about Tom Petty. I never bought a single disk and never felt I had to because it's always right there like the musical backdrop of our lives. But now thirty five years down the road, I crave the stuff. The Mudcrutch channel is my go-to Pandora Channel.
He's a fricking genius and Mike Campbell is the most criminally under-rated guitar player of all time. That dude is so money it makes me want to cry. Understated and freaking PERFECT.

I was in the woodlands in Texas on a summer internship with a couple of guys and we went to the mall on a Saturday night. Just so happens that Tom Petty was playing at the amphitheater that night and we could hear them from the mall. We grabbed some beers and stayed to listen in the parking lot and I remember singing along with "Free Falling" as they played and it was just a fun time and good memories. I think this will always be my favorite TP song

Tom petty was my dads favorite artist, so as a 20 year old it rubbed off on me. There is too many to name. His greatest hits, wildlflowers, and mojo are some of my favorite albums. Could listen to him all damn day. Seeing him on the floor at the Toyota center last year for the hypnotic eye tour will probably go down as my best music experience all time

Too many good ones to list. His entire greatest hits album, Good to Be King, You Wreck Me, Southern Accent and on and on.
Saw him live twice at the Woodlands Pavilion and he rocked his arse off for 2 solid hours. None of this hour and 20 minutes and leave the stage shite the new acts do.
TP is one of the most underrated & under appreciated American Rock and Roll singers of all time. Dude isn't flashy, he is just solid.

Tom Petty and John Cougar-Mellencamp carried the flag for rock & roll in the 70's when it was assaulted by the horror that was disco.

Such a great song, made my favorite list as well.
Video of Eddie Vedder covering the song in concert with Petty. Petty shares the vocals and has a nice guitar solo in the middle.

I just watched the documentary, Runnin Down a Dream, and I have to now consider TP & the Heartbreakers one of the all time greats. I always considered them very high up but more of a personal preference kind of thing. Everything he's done is just damn solid, if not great. His song catalog combined with his collaborations, longevity & relevancy, respect from other musicians, and his cool demeanor put him in the top for me. Thoughts??
