Casting my votes for "Your Gold Teeth" and "Show Biz Kids," both found on the Countdown to Ecstasy album.
"Your Gold Teeth" is the zenith of jazz rock. The boys straight go off as the tune winds down. The keyboards and percussion are true marvels.
"Show Biz Kids" boasts a groove that's second to none. The female background singers give the song a sexy twist and when Fagan says "You know they don't give a f*** about anybody else," it's so damned cool. Not to spark a political discussion, but I feel like the song's lyrics hold-up especially well in a world where celebrities are always preaching to us about how we should live.

Can't pick just one, unfortunately. But:
Kid Charlemagne
Deacon Blues
Do It Again
Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Hey Nineteen

Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Hey Nineteen

Alot of choices here but I'll go with"do it again" one of the greatest rifts ever in this song......

Don't Take Me Alive, off The Royal Scam album. Didn't get lots of airplay, but a great song.
Fagen & Becker are/were perfectionists, and it shows in their music.

My co-favorites are My Old School and FM.
The body of work is impressive, Do it Again, Dirty Work, Aja, Deacon Blue, Bodhisattva, Bad Sneakers, Babylon Sisters, Reelin' in the Years, Kid Charlamagne, Rikki, Josie, Pretzel Logic, Peg, Hey Nineteen, Gaucho, Time Out of Mind - that's just the tracks that got airplay.
The premier, jazz-blues-rock fusion act of all time.

Back and forth between Dirty Work and Do It Again. Love so many more.

Top three in order.
1. Kid Charlemagne
2. Show Biz Kids
3. Midnight Cruiser
I will now throw a hand grenade into this. It's not political but I guarantee the down vote to up vote ratio will be 4:1 at the very least.
Aja is not their best album. Aja is not even their second best album. In fact I find it a tad bit overrated. Not bad, just overrated. Their best two albums, in order, are The Royal Scam and Katy Lied. And in case my first hand grenade was a dud I will add that I have only heard three songs from Gaucho and I have hated all three of them. Hey Nineteen in particular might be my least favorite Steely Dan song out there. Time for the third hand grenade, Rikki Don't Lose that Number is Hey Nineteen's primary competition for that spot. This is coming from someone who has every album of theirs between Can't Buy a Thrill and Aja.

And yes this board is great. There are no political death matches here .

As a Steely Dan fan, I hate every word of your post.

Wow, you heard all of three songs on the album after Aja. Okay...Steely Dan "Fan".

I just love when folks use the word "overrated". If you don't like it you don't like it. That's fine--it's your opinion. But overrated it is not. Rarely has there been a collection of better musicians on a "rock" album. Critics and fans alike tout Steely Dan at their creative peak here.

Big 12. It's for you. Go back. (Hey, you said you were throwing a hand grenade into this...I'm just hurling it back--its all good!)
