I've been getting into them a lot the last few months and specifically in love with the baselines.
At the moment I love Peg the most off the Aja album.

Your Gold Teeth II
Even more jazzier than Aja, IMO. Wish Rick Beato would take this apart in What Makes This Song Great

Oddly enough a thread I started on this board about his breakdown of Symphony of Destruction is what really got me into them
One of the posters mentioned his tear down of Kid Charlemagne and that's what got me more into them.

I'm sure since you brought it up you already know what I'm talking about but just on the off chance you haven't seen it

Love all of the songs in the responses
Such an overlooked band from my perspective (they were before my time)
The Aja Album is a masterpiece

It's like picking a kid for me. But in the end, I love the Steely Dan of the incredibly perfect melody and perfectly crafted song over the Jazz workshop (but it's razor close). The Steely Dan catalogue is like oxygen to me, so I like it all. But here are the ones that I always go back to the most:
Here at The Western World
Any Major Dude
Dr Wu
Rikki
Any World that I’m Welcome to

When I was a kid I didn't have a record player, my older brother did. One day he came home with Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill and I loved the song "Reelin In The Years". Listened to that song every day for a month. Then one day the record disappeared and I found out he had borrowed it from a friend at school. I was so pissed I couldn't play it anymore.
So yeah, "Reelin In The Years" is mine. I associate that song with everything I loved as a little kid: Hot Wheels, football cards, wacky packages stickers, hot rods, dirt bikes, etc.

Apparently, we had the same childhood.

Normally I don't pay much attention to lyrics. I'm more of a groove/chord structure guy, but Deacon Blues is my favorite SD song because of the lyrics.
I cried when I wrote this song.
Sue if I play too long.
This brother is free.
I'll be who I want to be.

This is like Sophie's Choice -- on the other hand there's not a wrong answer. There's not a Steely Dan song that I couldn't listen to for the rest of my life. So I'll just pick one. I'll say Caves of Altamira. The lyrics are typical Steely Dan sarcasm. "Before the fall, when they wrote it on the wall. When there wasn't even any Hollywood." The harmonization is complex and interesting. The horn parts are amazing. The above probably applies to a few dozen of their songs.

It’s on my SD short list . Great pick.

I love them all, so I honestly can't pick a favorite. You should check out Donald Fagens solo stuff as well.

that song defines AM radio in the 70s
