The fact that the rolling stones are brought up as one of the can't miss bands of the generation tells me all I need to know - it was bullshite

My ace in the hole will always be first row center for Hendrix. I remember it clearly(mostly). Opening act was Soft Machine.

Fact. The concerts of the 80s are sorely missed. Bands back then toured like MAD!!! It seemed like there was a concert every other weekend between BR and Lake Charles. $5-10 for good bands....of the time. I think I paid only $4 for one concert in Lake Charles.

I lived about 20 minutes from a popular tour stop venue in the mid 80s and we’d go to concerts because there was nothing else to do and it was relatively cheap (less than $20). When prices hit $50 I quit going. Seeing those festival posters with the lineup and ticket prices from the 60s/70s blow my mind.

I’m an X’er and would listen in awe to boomers tell stories about the concerts and bands they saw..

You have a point, and there are some talented musicians today but not as many as in the past.

There are more talented musicians alive than anytime in the past simply due to the lower costs. There was a big push in the 70s/80s for children to learn a musical instrument and it shows.

To OP, fiction. There was great live music in the 60s and 70s, no doubt. And there was a lot of great music put out then too. But there is a lot of great music coming out now. And concerts are getting better IMHO. The sound quality has improved a lot in the last 15 years, plus bands are playing smaller venues which I prefer. Not to mention, they often have awesome stage shows.

Most of live recordings I have heard from the Stones have been crap. Get Yer Ya Yas Out is decent enough to at least check out though.

But that doesnt quite kill the whole generation for me.

I mean they still had a host of other stuff. Just look at the lineup for woodstock for some and then they also had badass stuff coming up in the 70's.

But yeah there's still alot of great stuff out there it's just that the way of finding it has changed. Also there is a shot load more bands and musicians out there playing in less commercially popular genres and production
level nowadays, I imagine it's hard to be a big fish in such a huge pond and get to where you have the financial backing to put on an arena show where the expectation is for a light show, screens, multimedia extravangaza.
