Any body into the EURO prog bands. My favorite is OPETH but both SOEN and Riverside are really good also. Seen OPETH three times but have not had a chance to see the other two. In Germany right now for work assignment. Was hoping to see some music while I'm here but of course that is not happening right now!!

Big Opeth fan. I've listened to some of the songs from the new Soen album but can't get into the vocals. Music is good though.

If you like Prog then you have to check out Haken. They are from the UK. Incredible musicians with amazing song writing talent. They are influenced by dream theater and Opeth and I believe Tool as well.

Heard of Hakin and will check them out further. Huge Dream Theater fan. Seen them many times. Thanks for the recommendation!

Take a listen to Wobbler from Norway. They have elements of KC, Genesis, Yes and some newer prog bands such as Anglagard and Anekdoten.
The new album is excellent.
Dwellers of the Deep.

If you're into prog this website is the most comprehensive place for that music. It's a rabbit hole full of information. Enjoy..

What side of Opeth do you enjoy? The Prog Rock or Prog Death?

A London prog band I dig a lot is The Safety Fire. They broke up, unfortunately.
The Safety Fire- Red Hatchet
Huge Hammers
Yellowism
The Safety Fire guitarists are now in the band Good Tiger, along with ex-Tesseract vocalist Elliot Coleman.
Good Tiger- Where Are The Birds

I like both forms of Opeth. The are the only death metal band that I like. The latest album is definitely a move away from the growling. I think his voice needed a break. At the Houston show last year they played a mix with some of the new album and was the best Opeth show that I have seen. The stage show and laser lights where great. Ghost of Perdition and Halequin Forest are great songs. I just dig the transitions in their songs they way they go from extremely hard to mellow.

No doubt Wobbler has heavy YES influence. I'm 64 so I did see YES at the LSU assembly center back in 75 or 76 with Rick Wakeman still in the band. So YES is one of my favorite bands. Will give Wobbler a heavy listen! Thanks for the recommendationQ

Check out Anciients (Not Euro) but it's a combo of heavy Opeth and Mastodon. For the softer side of Opeth, check out Storm Corrosion, it's a side project with Steve Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt. Also, check out Steven Wilson's solo albums if you haven't already. I also like OSI, a band created by Kevin Moore of Dream Theater fame.
ETA.. Just saw your Yes post. My Dad always listened to Yes when growing up so I have a soft spot for that band. IMO a modern-day Yes is the British band IQ. They have a lot of albums, start with The Road of Bones.

If he's gonna listen to OSI, might as well check out Kevin Moore's Chroma Key as well.
