Rediscovering my Elton John library and have to admit that I really like Honky Cat a lot. It has a Louisiana vibe to it with the horns and of course EJs piano playing is fantastic, almost Fats Domino level on this song.

It's a nice tune. I have a nice EJ collection as well.

Check this kid out doing a cover of it, he was 14-15 y.o. at the time, which makes it pretty impressive.

He said those words though. Seems like grounds for cancelation to me.

Since when has timeframe meant anything. We don’t have to worry about Elton, though. They won’t cancel an alphabet boy.

It just means that back then nobody gave a shite of what the lyrics said, that's all.

People had thicker skin back then, because it was a lot colder before global warming caused us all to mutate.

It’s a non-woke double whammy. Honky Cat was on the Honky Château album.

Great album, btw.

This should get him cancelled if anything would. You cannot disparage a VP like that.

I see your teeth flash, Jamaican honey so sweet
Down where Lexington cross 47th Street
Oh she's a big girl, she's standing six-foot three
Turning tricks for the dudes in the big city
Island girl
What you wanting with the white man's world?
Island girl
Black boy want you in his island world
He want to take you from the racket boss
He want to save you, but the cause is lost
Island girl, island girl, island girl
Tell me what you wanting with the white man's world
Well she's black as coal, but she burn like a fire
And she wrap herself around you like a well-worn tire
You feel her nail scratch your back just like a rake, oh oh
He one more gone, he one more John who make the mistake
Island girl
What you wanting with the white man's world?
Island girl
Black boy want you in his island world
He want to take you from the racket boss
He want to save you, but the cause is lost
Island girl, island girl, island girl
Tell me what you wanting with the white man's world
Island girl
What you wanting with the white man's world?
Island girl
Black boy want you in his island world
He want to take you from the racket boss
He want to save you, but the cause is lost
Island girl, island girl, island girl
Tell me what you wanting with the white man's
Tell me what you wanting with the white man's
Tell me what you wanting with the white man's

Damn, that's the first time I've ever read the lyrics to that song, and never paid much attention to them. Always one of the songs I would just let play on the radio and not change the channel.

Was Elton's hit "Nikita" about a man or a woman? You seem like the guy to ask.

Google says:

Contrary to popular belief, the name Nikita isn’t actually a female name. In Russia and some other places in Eastern Europe, it is given to males. According to Elton (who came out as gay years after the release of the song), he was aware that Nikita is a male name when he wrote the song.

The music video shows otherwise. To top it off, the girl is hot, and EJ seems to be having a good time with her (I know, he's acting).

That's exactly what he was going for. New Orleans is even mentioned in the lyrics

Elton John didn't write his lyrics
