I’m a bass player and love pedals. I know, that face you make when the bass player walks in with a board. I’m down to a small board now with just 7 pedals. Post what you use as it greatly interests me, and show the new stuff when you get it.
Using now:
-Strobostomp mini
-Niche Devices Humboldt (compressor/transformer pre)
-Tc Elect. 3rd Dimension
-Line6 HX One (incoming)
-Origin Effects DCX Bass
-Sushibox Finally (tube DI)
and this one just came in
It is the “Pultec trick” in a small pedal.

My bass board is tuner > Walrus Deep Six > Sansamp DI
I have a space for another pedal in between comp and DI…but I’ve yet to figure out what I want there…

Is the Deep Six colored at all or pretty transparent?
I love the sound of the BDDI to FOH, but hate it going into my amp.

i keep my bass pedal board very simple:
Keeley Bassist compressor/limiter
Big Muff Pi fuzz
Southampton Utility Knife chorus/flanger/phaser
Quilter Interbass amp
all on a small footprint pedalboard that fits in an old leather laptop case that also holds all my cables
really fast setting up and tearing down, just a cable (or Lekato wireless) from my bass to the Keeley, another cable to my Revsound 115 and/or 112 cabs, loud enough for any gig Ive played thus far

The irony is that there is only one pedal in this hoard that I use daily - the smallbox Flashback for ambient room delay is velcro'ed to my Boogie head, running through the loop, and it stays on all the time.

The first gen CF-1 Fulltone Choralflange (April 2007) is the newest acquisition. I bought it a few weeks ago at the Phoenix Guitar Show from my longtime pal who is stage right tech for Doobie Brothers. The tape hash marks are the go-to settings from when it resided on Patrick Simmons' pedalboard.

The first gen CF-1 Fulltone Choralflange (April 2007) is the newest acquisition. I bought it a few weeks ago at the Phoenix Guitar Show from my longtime pal who is stage right tech for Doobie Brothers. The tape hash marks are the go-to settings from when it resided on Patrick Simmons' pedalboard.

So how much of your sound (anyone's) is pedals-n-feet and how much all the various parts of both hands?

As a simple rule of thumb, you use effects to emulate things you normally can't do, or things you normally can't do easily, or things you can't do cheaply.
A great and/or example of all of the above is a flanger pedal. "Flange" refers to the outer edge, or flange, of a tape reel in an old skool analog studio. The original warbly effect was created by pressing and manipulating the spinning tape's flange with a finger to create the warbly swoosh. Someone figured out how to do it via analog and later digital modulation circuits.
That Top Boost in a Can pedal is a VERY convincing 1960s Vox AC30 Top Boost clone. It's a killer coupla-hundred-bucks alternative to a hard to source and hard to maintain $5000-plus vintage amp. Similar story for the Wampler, it sounds better to me than the Klon pedal it emulates. The Bogner pedal mimics about $10K in very desirable and historic Marshalls. I can't store or haul multiple Marshalls, much less source them or afford them.

I’m going to sound like me no matter what I play, bass or effect, the effects just provide tonal enhancement and sounds. The amp probably more important than the pedals. I learned the hard way that changing amps can change everything. I thought would be no big deal, but I went from a Mesa D-800 (Class D power with SS preamp section) to a GK Fusion 800S (Class D power with tube preamp and drive stages). The Mesa was very clean while the GK just has more umph and grit and tonal character. Had to retool my board as things that worked before were now either too much or redundant.
But, yes, tone is in the fingers. I could plug straight into the amp and sound good. It’s just fun having that enhancement and options. And for a bass player, it is also about finding ways to cut through the mix and not get lost. Very easy to just plug into the amp and sound great then walk out FOH during the show and find you’re not really in the mix that much.
The main pain in the arse is when you get it dialed in just perfect then go to the next gig at a different venue and the same settings don’t get it done. Always a challenge.
