You guys are going to love this one.
Even though I rarely like Patterson Hood songs, The Title Track actually sounds good to me. Haven't analyzed the lyrics yet, but you can BLM gets a mention.
Article on the release.

From Rolling Stone,
quote:
Cooley is also responsible for the album’s most lighthearted musical moment. “Sarah’s Flame,” his sole writing contribution, is a Cooley classic, a tragicomic depiction of Sarah Palin’s under-acknowledged influence on Trump’s far-right white identity politics.
quote:
“Every day I was hearing surprise from talking heads about Trump tapping into this thing that nobody else had tapped into, as if he figured something out with this crowd,” says the songwriter. “And I’m like, ‘Was I asleep eight years ago when I watched Sarah Palin do the same thing, with the same crowd, playing the same hits?’ I had watched her become the toast of crazytown, getting the same applause with the same lines. [For this song], I figured I can insult both of them in the most ironic way possible: I can portray her as a feminist icon, that would piss her off, and then emasculate him a little bit at the same time. That was the gist of it: you guys can’t give a woman credit for anything, can you?”

Musically it's not a bad song but I just can't get past the douchey preachy wokeness.

They should have called it quits years ago.

I saw a Mike Cooley solo show several years ago and it was awesome. Just him , an acoustic, a chair and a bottle of Maker's Mark on the stage.

Isn’t the OK sign white supremacist?
They just need to change their name to the DMUB Woke Bastards.
LINK
The "OK" hand gesture, commonly seen as a way of indicating that all is well, has now been classified as something else: a symbol of hate.
On Thursday, the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights organization, added 36 symbols to its "Hate on Display" database including the index finger-to-thumb sign that in some corners of the Internet has become associated with white supremacy and the far right.

DBT really need that third singer/songwriter like when Isbell was there. Cooley is capable of writing the best song on the album but he starts waning if you count on him for more than 3 songs. Hood is the heartbeat of the band, but he’s gone too far off the deep end. They were at their best when they were spinning songs about southern folklore and mythology.

My DBT days were early 00s, that's where my interest in the band ended. And never have bought any of the following solo career works.
I'm an equal opportunity hater of either political side depending on the issue, the whole system corrupt. But, much like Sports, Food, Film/Art,etc..I don't want politics in it.
Fatigued.

I have been starting my stations lately with Sons of Bill and Wrinkle Necked Mules. Google thinks DBTs go with both of these. been having to do a lot of thumbs down lately. Way too many hood songs.

Amen. Saw them live and was preached to, then told people in my family were racists just because they disagreed with them.
Frick these people.

Kinda disagree
Brighter than Creation’s Dark
Three Dimes Down
Perfect Timing
Self Destructive Zones
Bob
Lisa’s Birthday
Checkout Time in Vegas
A Ghost to Most
Of those 7, I think 6 of them are really good songs, with Lisa’s Birthdat being the exception.

It's a solid tune.. but the band has somewhat run its course with me musically, I'm sure they'll always be able to turn out the odd great song... But I just cant get excited about 'em and rarely go back and listen to their early output anymore either..
And it has zero to do with their politics..

I need to start trying some new southern country rock and Americana stuff, been out of the loop for years now.
Just been binging lots of Silversun Pickups, Tame Impala, National, Amy Shark,etc..rock and pop lately.

Americana
Ive had a hard time finding anything in the genre that I have loved in quite some time... A lot of solid, not bad stuff.. but nothing I have really gotten excited about..

I haven't been mining it, but pay attention to you audiophiles, and buy the rare Q, Mojo,etc..
