Because as we all know, Rap isn't actually music.

All the rap threads clutter up this board of actual music.

Put them on the Pulitzer Prize Board

This board has little to no movement on a daily basis. If it wasn't for hip hop threads it would be much less.

Honestly, I'd like for someone to make a case for Kendrick Lamar deserving a Pulitzer Prize. That would be a good read.

Ooh, that sounds like a challenge. I'll give it a shot, with the caveat that I don't know anything about Pulitzer Prize winning music.

In fact, that's the best argument. Look at the list of Pulitzer winners and tell me why Kendrick's Damn is worse.

The list is exclusively classical music, musical theater and one jazz composition. If you honestly know more than 5 off the top of your head and can speak about their quality...well, I definitely can't.

Are people honestly pissed that this is ruining the memory of Elliott Carter's String Quartet #3 win? Was String Quartet #3 actually better than #1 or #2?

It's an award that's gone to music barely anyone listens to. It's impossible to argue Damn pales in comparison to past winners because no one knows past winners.

In terms of extending the award to music people actually care about, Damn isn't a bad start. It was the best reviewed album by a number of critic aggreggations, had tons of commercial success and has an interesting concept. The reverse track order that creates two albums in one, with the second tracking Kendrick's career in a less than positive light is more concept than most albums in 2017.

Look, I like rap and stuff like Gucci Gang makes me gag. Damn is so far above trash like that.

If you don't like rap, fair enough, but there are reasons Damn won, and looked at vs other winners...well, no one knows anything about other winners or wants to listen to them. If you honestly own more than 5 albums who've won Pulitzers prior...Damn.

There's my best shot.

Post you quoted. For starters, how do you think Damn compares with String Quartet #3?

See,rap has turned him into a foul mouthed, violent, sex crazed animal. It truly is a blight on our society made by talentless hacks and listened to by trash with horrible taste.

Kafka doesn't know who Kendrick Lamar is

If it's not an obscure reference to something in the early 60s Kafka is pretty lost

Actually I do, having listened to the virtuoso poetry and haunting melodies of "Bitch, Don't Steal My Vibe"

I can honestly say I love it as much as any rap track I've ever heard

See, that makes me think that you don't listen to it and take shots based off googling his songs.

In the album itself, it's a song cycle in which there's a younger (fictional) Kendrick as a protagonist. He cruises with some friends, gets persuaded to commit a robbery and struggles with the bad influences of his friends and his own hopes kf better stuff.

B****, Don't Kill My Vibe sets up the robbery in the song cycle as he cruises with friends. It's intended as a song that spotlights the negative influences in Compton.

LINK

Link if you prefer reading to listening. A lot of people who don't actually listen mistake the character(s) intentionally used for his own voice when it gets set up differently in the actual album.

Now, if you want to hate on Lil' Pump, go ahead.
