I dunno... I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in ~15 years... and then it was only college radio/npr/sports talk

I grew up on AM radio in the few years before "underground" FM stations took off.

On KRLA in Los Angeles, this would be a typical hour's worth of music in, say, 1965:

Beatles ... The Supremes ... The Stones ... Dylan ... James Brown ... Martha and the Vandellas ... Sam the Sham & the Pharos ... The Byrds ... Smokey Robinson & The Miracles ... Johnny Cash ... Herb Alpert ... The Kinks ... The Animals ... The Temptations ... Marvin Gaye ... Brenda Lee ... The Yardbirds ...

The station kicked arse. It was before music got segmented by markets, so you heard an unbelievable variety of artists. It was a listener's dream ... until the marketing industry fricked it all up.

Anyone knocking TOP before listening to anything besides Stressed Out, Ride, Heathens or before watching them live is doing themselves a great injustice. Tyler Joseph is one of the better songwriters in the game IMO, and the dudes put on a badass show.

I don't mind some Top 40 songs, but I do agree that most of it sucks now of days.

I don't even know if there is a Top 40 station in this market. Pretty much quit on terrestrial radio in about 2009. I have started listening to XM recently but did not even know where the Top 40 stations were until someone posted above.

But when I was a kid, I couldn't wait for church to end so I could run to the car and turn on Casey Kasem while I waited on the parents. Then we listened to it at the house while the Sunday chicken was frying.

Hey I'm not into teeny bopper bands but I like TOP style. They definitely have a unique sound and anyone who writes their own music gets respect fun me. My 14yo saw them live a couple weeks ago and the videos she shot were great. Love the singer crowd surfing in a giant ball while he continued to sing
