The 90's: A lot of old timers are too old to appreciate it, but I am glad I grew during that time. Rock ruled. West Coast Rap (the best rap music ever written and recorded) was on the airwaves. Country was still country. MTV was actually a station that played music. A lot of great artists who were associated with other decades were prominent (Guns n Roses, Beastie Boys, Aerosmith, Duran Duran, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers...).

I grew up in the 90s and it's not even close to the best decade for music. The 70s wins in a landslide. Many of the artists that started making music in the 60s came into their own in the 70s.

It was all around great for every genre of music. Great country music, great rock music, great jazz music, great R&B and soul music, great funk music . You get the point.

Also got great bands from the 80s that started in the 70s. Tom Petty, The Cars, Van Halen, ect.....

This. The 90's were the golden years of my childhood so of course the music will always be nostalgic and awesome. What's great about the 60's - 90's is that each decade was so different from the last, but once the internet came along and established itself, everything changed. Since the 00's, I can't really distinguish the 00's from the 10's. I love each decade, but if I had to rank them, it would be:

90s>60s>70s>80s

The 70's. The 60's had some increadible music in the latter half, but 1960-1964 is just such a wasteland that it allows the 70's, with its unbelievable breadth, depth, and consistency to win #1. The 70's had the best of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Kiss, Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Skynard, Sky Dog, Clapton, ect. So much incredible music across the entire decade. 1969 was the greatest individual year for music, and 1966-1971 may be the greatest ever period for music in history, but the 70's squeaks out a victory.
