What a fantastic show at the Saenger Theater 37 years ago. Ronnie James Dio was a fantastic vocalist. The great guitarist Vivian Campbell put on an exceptional show. They somehow had a volcano on stage spewing smoke and fire.........hell, we were all spewing smoke and fire......

Holy shite man you’re on a roll lately. This show was fricking BAD. arse!!
I went down there with three buddies and I swear our seats weren’t far from yours. We were also to the left and about 10 rows back. Crazy shite. You remember some a-hole shooting what must have been M80’s at the stage from the balcony? Ronnie told the crowd he would unfortunately have no choice but to stop the show if it continued and he gave permission to anyone who saw the shooter to beat the everloving shite out of them. No more fireworks from the balcony after that.
I caught the Last In Line and Sacred Heart shows at Lakefront Arena as well, 11 months later and then 11 months later again. (Crazy how fast the albums and tours used to come back then). Neither one could live up to Holy Diver at the Saenger though. Just something about Dio, Holy Diver, and an awesome intimate theater like that. Way up there on my best concerts attended list.
And yes. Campbell was simply amazing. And YES, there was some smoke spewing from our seats as well!!
ETA: Dude I wanna call dibs on BOC/Foghat next October 4th. Was already thinking about doing that a few months back since it’ll be forty years.

I was there as well. The radio spots on WRNO advised "ear protection will be provided". I think everyone got two cotton balls upon entering. It was a great show having only Holy Diver out at the time. I think they played the whole album plus, Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea and Man on the Silver Mountain if my memory is correct. Same here. smoked the shite out of some vegetation that concert.

It is correct. Incredible setlist. I vividly remember during Heaven And Hell at the point where he sang about the big black shape looking up at him and then about the little white shape looking down at him, each trying to get him to come with them. I knew exactly what was coming from hearing it on the Black Sabbath Live Evil album. One of my buddies did not though and I told him check this shite out and listen up. Kinda blew his mind.

Saw Dio and Dokken in Biloxi January 1985 and then Dio and Accept in Pensacola June 1986.
That little rascal could belt it out with the best of them.

I 1st saw Dio when he was with Rainbow a few years earlier. He was relatively unknown then but I knew then he could blast some vocals. Man, Blackmore was so good. They were warmup for REO or something like that.

One of the best Mardi Gras throws ever was a Dio cassette I caught at the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, circa 2016. csb.

I saw him at HOB in NOLA in 1997. I was in the front row about 8ft from him. Magika tour. One of the best concerts I've seen. They left the stage and the guitarist came on and did what seemed like a 20 minute solo. He played most of the classics.
