Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not is out. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic.com gives it 4.5 stars.

quote:

That's not to say Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not doesn't surprise, because it does -- namely, it shocks by sounding as vital as Dinosaur Jr. ever has.

quote:

the tunes are among the strongest sets of songs Mascis and Barlow have ever written

Love Is A Barlow tune.

Tiny A Mascis song that sound like old Dinosaur Jr.

Meh....production seems muddy and the songs are pretty boring.

Old stuff is way better. You can't say the new stuff sounds like this:

Lung

In a Jar

Freak Scene

I like both those tracks a good bit, plus some others from the new album. Sure it may not quite be Freak Scene or In a Jar, but I didn't really expect them to write the best songs of their lives at 50.

The last Dinosaur Jr album I liked was Green Mind. Bug, in my opinion, is one of the greatest rock n roll albums ever.

With that being said, I am old. Not sure I want to listen to something new and it being the equivalent of REMs radio song.

I know what you are talking, and it doesn't sound like they did that.

Farm was fantastic. A little too similar at points, but still good.

New one is solid so far.

Farm is one of their best IMO. This new one is better than I Bet On Sky but it hasn't hooked me like Farm did.

Dinosaur Jr songs generally take longer than most to hook me, so I am giving it time. Tiny and one other are being played on XM fairly regularly, and I have an Artist Seek set up on them.

The album finishes really strong. The final three tracks are the best imho.

I only got into Dinosaur a little over a year ago, which makes no sense since I was born in 1980 and love Neil Young, but I saw them in Brooklyn last month and they rocked so fricking hard. One of my favorite shows I've ever seen. Amazing how their stuff has always held up.

I would love to see them play the Varsity again. That show on the Beyond tour (I think) was excellent.

Was it the 2009 show with Dead Confederate? That was my first Dinosaur Jr show. It was actually right before Farm came out.

Was an awesome show too!

Just listened to the bits of his album on I tunes. Didn't download the whole album in order listen to every single song in it's entirety, but on a first listen; these songs all sound the same.

I love this band, so I will probably download it and give the whole thing a listen, but prolly should save my money and download Tiny - good song - agree it's old school. I like it. But this album ain't Bug or Your're Living All Over Me.

FYI I am old enough to remember when their live shows sucked - saw them in 88 in Jersey City and later that year in Boston and they didn't finish either show. Not even sure the whole trio showed up for the Boston show.
