quote:

It's twelve o'clock and it's a wonderful day
I know you hate me but I'll ask anyway
Won't you come with me to a place in a little town
The only way to get there's to go straight down
There's no bathroom and there is no sink The water out of the tap is very hard to drink Very hard to drink
You wait til tomorrow
You wait til tomorrow

You say that money isn't everything
But I'd like to see you live without it,
You think you can keep on going living like a king,
Oohh babe, but I strongly doubt it,
Very hard to drink,
Very hard to drink,

You gonna wait too, fat boy,
Fat boy, wait til tomorrow,
You gonna wait too, fat boy,
Fat boy, wait til tomorrow,
You, wait til tomorrow,
You, wait til tomorrow,
You gonna wait too, fat boy,
Fat boy, wait til tomorrow,
You gonna wait too, fat boy,
Fat boy, wait til tomorrow.

Typical self-loathing, early 90s jam. Seems procrastination was a problem and a song was spun around it.

Been diggin' this one for a couple decades, crazy to consider.

You should start out your investigation with the fact that Daniel was 13 or 14 when he wrote it.

Because of the sound of the song and the style that was prevalent at the time, I kinda liked it when it came out. But the lyrics were a big part of why I eventually turned 180 on it and haven't voluntarily listened to it in years.

There's a way of writing that leaves the listener to use his own interpretation and at it's best (ex. early REM) it can be very effective. It's actually my favorite kind of lyrics because I find overly specific and linear messaging in songs to be boring. But this song is an example of attempting that technique and having it come off hacky and amateurish.

Probably younger, honestly. It was written well before Frogstomp came out. He had said something about seeing some fat kid out somewhere wanting his Mom to buy him whatever it was and she wouldn't buy it. Pretty sure the song originates from something like that.

The band had five records. They stopped playing it during the beginning of the third record's tour...roughly. Daniel felt the same way as you.

I have little to no idea what the song is about. However, the lead singer did have a well documented battle with anorexia, so I find it ironic that he uses the words, "fat boy" over ad over in the song.

I know he wrote this song when he was very young and probably before his anorexia occured, but I am curious if there is some sort of relationship there?

His anorexia developed a few years later after they had become "stars." One of their best songs is actually written about it:

Ana's Song (Open Fire)

quote:

Please die Ana
For as long as you're here, we're not
You make the sound of laughter
And sharpened nails seem softer

And I need you now somehow
And I need you now somehow

Open fire on the needs designed
On my knees for you
Open fire on my knees desires
What I need from you

Imagine pageant
In my head the flesh seems thicker
Sandpaper tears corrode the film
And I need you now somehow
And I need you now somehow

Open fire on the needs designed
On my knees for you
Open fire on my knees desires
What I need from you

And your my obsession
I love you to the bones
And Ana wrecks your life
Like an anorexia life

Open fire on the need designed
On my knees for you
Open fire on my knees desires
What I need from you
Open fire on my needs designed
Oh, and open fire on the needs designed
On my knees for you

Saw them House of Blues NOLA in Feb 99. They put on a SHOW. The opening act was Kent, who were also very talented.

Lost my lost for them once 97 rolled around. Frogstomp was a terrific album for 3 teenagers.
