Singer-songwriter-guitarist David Crosby, a founding member of two popular and enormously influential ’60s rock units, the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash (later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), has died. He was 81 years old.

As irritating as he could often be, he was a member of America's most influential band, and attention must be paid.

Rough January already for the rockers...including Yukihiro Takahashi-drummer for Yellow Magic Orchestra. Dead at age 70 on January 11.

so was he. although he made some of his best music in his mid-late 70's (and toured behind it), he said many times he was primarily doing it to pay his bills

I love their music, but this might be a bit exaggerated.
That's not taking away from David Crosby, he's as good as you could get, at the things did. RIP.

Hugely influential in power pop

Hugely influential in country rock/Americana/roots music -- especially when you consider The Eagles were a commercialized version of the later Byrds ("Our goal was to avoid making the mistakes The Byrds made", one of them said). Their influence is still being felt today

I stand by the statement
