Last update on his website was Sept 1 when he was still in the hospital. I assume no news is not necessarily good news.

I saw him once on my birthday. He played a half a set, about 25 minutes of medleys and covers, stepped off stage for an "intermission", and never came back. The opening band came back out and played for over an hour.
I've had a handful of chances to see him again, even for free. I declined.
