You can take an Aldean song and remove the vocal and probably convince someone it was AC/DC
True. Most "radio country" does not sound like traditional country

There's really only 2 types of songs Nashville churns out these days
1) songs full of redneck stereotypes to make some of the dumbasses think they're listening to real country music "well this song said something about drinking cold beer and listening to old Hank, I like both of those things. HOW DID THEY KNOW?!?!?"
2) the teenage girl music, let's call it the Taylor Swift/Rascal Flatts division. Awful. The love songs coming out are so cliche and lame. I think Lady Antebellum has soared to my #1 on the hate list. I want to kick all 3 of them in the throat.

It's made to cater to two kinds of people.
Frat boy wanna be duck hunters in daddy's big jacked up 4x4
and
Teenage fat girls who have had a boyfriend once.

I just ventured over to a "new" country station for just a couple minutes. Can't believe how bad it was. There was some Gilbert Brantley song (I think that was his name) that seriously sounded like Chevelle. Nothing country at all except he kept mentioning big trucks And "good ole boys".

Brantley Gilbert. Song is Kick it in the Sticks. I agree it's not the least bit traditional country but it's still damn good.
"We''ll do a little frog giggin, cow tippin. How bout a lil skinny dippin, bass fishin. Take it easy on the 'shine."
Seriously check out a few of his songs. Some good stuff.
Halfway to Heaven
Them Boys
Saving Amy
Edit: Saving Amy is a true song he wrote about a good friend back in GA.

They do have a few texas artists that do that. 1/2 are geared to that and the other half are garage rock bands that never made it so they changed to country.
Aaron Watson - Haunted House
Aaron Watson - San Angelo
Aaron Watson - Off the Record
Jason Boland - No Reason Being Late
Jason Boland - Farmers Luck
Jason Boland - False Accuser's Lament
Jarrod Birmingham - Where'd You Go Country Music
Jarrod Birmingham - If That Ain't Country
Jarrod Birmingham - Sad Country Song
Jarrod Birmingham - Nursing Home Song

I do understand what you are saying. Those are pretty much country stereotypes.
But can you not even mention frog gigging or fishing without it being labeled a cheesy stereotype?

Sure you can, but the manner he does it in is shitty.
Idk how to explain it. There's a fine line between a cheesy stereotype and damn good country music.

kinda tough putting it into words as well, you can usually just tell when a song is genuine vs. one that's just blatantly pandering.
