Cobain --- shocking to me at the time
I have to say that Cobain didn't surprise me either in the least, since his final months were filled with drama, including a previous attempt.

most don't mention MLB when talking grunge for some reason
I would have to say that's because Grunge didn't explode as Grunge until after Wood died and they broke up. I'm sure millions of people are familiar with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and AIC but have never even heard of Mother Love Bone, which is a shame.

Who is the singer/band that embodied all of your late teens to early 20's? Would you not have a case of the sads when Florida Georgia Line loses a member?
It will be Beiber for this kid's generation.

quote:1. Kurt Cobain didn't kill himself
It was an apparent suicide. Chris Cornell will do anything to rip off Kurt Cobain
2. Soundgarden was around before Nirvana
Skimming through this thread and the other one just makes me smh. Chris Cornell vocals is legendary and the world is less today. RIP.
Personally, Rusty Cage is one of my all-time fav songs from the early 90s.

Dropped my kid off at school today and XM station played Seasons off the Singles Soundtrack. I got the sads.
I am a COMPLETE Pearl Jam lover. But I will easily admit Cornells voice is inhuman while Vedders is just good. Time and cigs (for Vedder) ravaged the voices but Cornell just scaled it down to his acoustic work so he didn't have a band to scream over anymore.
I am furious that I never got to see a solo show of his. Just a dude and a guitar in a small to medium venue. Damn it

I should have left it at skimming this thread so I wouldn't have read the responses to this.

Chris Cornell had the scream for ages, similar to Robert Plant.

I edited, I re-read and saw my words were confusing.

I skimmed through the other one first so that probably helped my perspective.

Yeah, I didn't intend to come across that way. I was linking your first post about Vedder.

Cornell's screaming style is hit/miss for some but his melodic delivery with Temple of the Dog is tGOAT voice.

From Reddit:
quote:
My dad worked at the concert yesterday. He said that after everyone had gone Chris was still playing on the stage. My dad said it was totally bizarre and the security guards were getting frustrated because they had to stay so late.
At that point he probably knew he was going to commit suicide and that was his last concert.
Edit 2: Since some are questioning my father's story I asked him to clarify. He said that there was a very small amount of people still in the theater. He also said there were originally plans to cut the concert short but, he (my father) ended up having to stay until 1 in the morning instead of the 11:30 that he would normally leave at. It was a little bit out of the ordinary.
