I didn't make that show, but I've seen Cheap Trick 5 or 6 times. They played the State Fair in the mid 80s, around 1985. I also saw them last year at the Saenger. One of the greatest live bands around.

Yep. He’s one of my favorites. He and Liberty DeVitto do not get the credit they deserve.

There was a transition from the Xces period where the music was more geared toward alt/industrial music (re: Front 242, NIN, New Order, Depeche Mode, etc. and the more poppy derivatives) to when it was renamed The Zoo, by which time that scene was almost exclusively Miami bass and orchestra strike stuff (Stevie B, Trinere, Timmy T, Johnny O, etc.).
Starting around '87.. It was a teen club called 2010 that would close for an hour or so and re-open as the zoo to the wee hours (they changed the name from Xces, because of the drug reference)..

Saw them in about 85 in Monroe at an outdoor show for NLU Spring Fling. Night Ranger and Otis Day and the Nights were also on the bill. It rained, and the field became a mud pit, like a redneck Woodstock. Stayed with some friends who were students there and got some kind of drunk. Good times.

Missed this show but saw them twice sandwiched around it. ‘82 at the Assembly Center. My buddy and I actually had front row seats. Awesome show. ‘85ish at the State Fair as well. Rain moved the show inside a big arse tent. That was a cool as hell setting and they tore it up. Good times.

A friend drug me there. I guess if you were a cheap trick fan, like my buddy, it was great. To me it was a cheesy desperate band trying to stay relevant.
