The band's on stage and it's one of those nights, oh yeah The drummer thinks that he is dynamite, oh yeah You lovely ladies in your leather and lace A thousand lips I would love to taste I've got one heart and it hurts like hell If you can't rock me somebody will
I don’t know that he thought it but he was.

RIP Charlie.
A favorite Charlie Watts story that includes another departed legend.
In 2003, Rush were playing the SARSstock festival in Toronto, which was headlined by The Rolling Stones. Geddy Lee said that right before they went on stage, a guy comes over to Neil Peart and taps him on the shoulder and says hello. Anyone who knows anything about Neil Peart knows he did not like strangers and right before walking on stage was the hugest of no-nos. So Geddy said he turned around and had the mad as hell look on his face that suddenly turned to shock as he saw the realization that, Oh shite, it's Charlie Watts. He stood dumbfounded and Charlie just looked at him and said, "I'm going to watch you play". Geddy said he had never ever seen Neil Peart that nervous as he ran out on stage.

Heard the Stones at the PMAC in 1975. They started their Tour of the Americas in Baton Rouge with two shows. Charlie Watts was a great drummer and a much needed straight man who was the glue for his band mates who partied non stop.

Jagger once said, "Except for Charlie Watts, white drummers don't swing".

I love this one. Around the 3:25 mark, Keith is wanting the song to continue but Charlie begins the ending fills. Keith raises the neck of his guitar as if to say 'keep going'. Mick looks at Charlie laughing and Keith quickly walks back to the drums and flips Charlie off

Here’s one I’d never heard before from his obit in Rolling Stone:
quote:RIP.
As one famous story from the band’s heyday goes, Jagger once phoned Watts’ hotel room in the midst of an all-night party, asking, “Where’s my drummer?” Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying, “Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my fricking singer!”

Miss You is my favorite of theirs.
Fun Fact: Miss You was the first song heard playing on a Miami Vice episode.

Sad day. First of the original band since Brian Jones. The Stones were my favorite band since the early 70's. Charlie just laid down a straight beat all the time. RIP

I first saw the Stones at the Assembly Center show, can't remember if it was '74 or '75.

1969, Hyde Park right after Brian Jones’ death. Everyone terribly out of tune and Charlie powers through.

My personal Charlie Watts story:
1989 Steel Wheels Tour: Birmingham, AL
Stones coming to Alabama was a HUGE deal. After the show, Charlie rented out Bottegga Restaurant on the Southside and took the Stones road crew out to dinner. Basically took over the entire restaurant and these guys were wild. Completely rowdy rock n roll British yobs.
Charlie hung out by the bar the entire night and was the most approachable nicest guy you would ever meet. Just a total gentleman and made time for all the fans (including me) who wanted to talk or get a picture. He was clearly enjoying himself. I am guessing coming to Alabama was something a novelty to him but he was such a nice guy and was genuinely appreciative of the fans there.
