Just watched an excellent documentary on his amazing career. Took extraordinary courage for a young black son of a sharecropper growing up in small town Mississippi in the 1950s to be true to his heart and become the great country singer he did. Had invaluable support from some of the greats of his day such as Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton to help him along his path.
Much respect for the man to overcome what he called the “skin hang-ups” in a genre truly dominated by white artists before he came along.

Yup. Cannot imagine the abuse he must have taken on the road back in the day.

At one time, Charlie Pride had sold more records for his label than anyone except some guy named Elvis Presley

I used to work with Charley Pride's nephew. His nephew is an outstanding guy, salt of the earth country boy from outside of Batesville, MS. He said Charley was the real deal.

I worked at a law firm in the 90's in Dallas. He was a client of ours.
Had to go to his house numerous times for signatures.
He had a very normal house with no gate and nothing special.

Nicest guy that asked ME in for coffee.....and I was a nobody.
