Houston is infinitely better than BR. Most bands will do Hou and ATX. Dallas is meh at best.

I would say for local bands, Dallas is better than Houston. We have one of the best college music schools in the country in Denton and all those kids form bands and play gigs in Dallas. And we get all the touring bands Houston does.

shite I forget about UNT. Snarkey Puppy was blowing up for a minute, not sure what happened. Maybe the inconsistent lineups?

Serious question- have you been to any shows outside of Louisiana?

My comment is about the under 40 crowd IN BATON ROUGE, not everywhere. My comment is about how ridiculous and weird it is that the under 40 crowd in BR loves cover bands. Most other places, it's only the 40+ crowd that shows up to hear that stuff.

There's some good bands down there, though. I really like Terra Terra, Tomb of Nick Cage, Paris Avenue, and The Breton Sound
Link(s) ?

Paris Avenue

The Breton Sound

Terra Terra
The Tomb of Nick Cage They're better live, but their recordings are pretty meh.

Bayou Bullets

You mean a city with a metro area of over 6 million has a way better original music scene and gets more touring acts than a metro area of around 800k? You don't say

Wondering why alot of the talented bands who play at Mid city ballroom or Spanish moon wont ever perform there.

Because frat bars don’t typically book original bands.

Next question?

the only people willing to pay to go see live music in this town want to pay to see a cover band.

I mean that’s not really true either though. Touring bands do just fine.

I’m into Americana type music. Texas is big on that. I don’t find the Nola scene to be all that. It’s better than br for sure though.

BR has much better Americana/folk bands/songwriters than New Orleans. And it’s not even remotely close. The singer songwriter scene in Nola is non existent. There are THREE listening rooms in Baton Rouge where locals will play with touring acts that come through from Texas and Oklahoma.

Only in Br can bands like Bag of Donuts, spank the Monkey, and the Molly Ringwalds play for 17 decades to sold out crowds.

The general public of BR isn’t really interested in original music as a whole. I say that but there’s sold out crowds for touring bands every week.

Feels like an overstatement
