Yea, it's not a great album. There's 3 or 4 good tunes on it, with a lot of other junk. The best song (imo) is a cover tune.
What??? That’s crazy talk. Outside of the singles, Waiting for the Day, That’s Not Me, Here Today, in just Wasn’t Made for these Times and You Still Believe in Me are all fantastic songs.

Yea, I chose not to comment on that. Lol
Once again, I always liked the Beach Boys. They were always American feel good music, and Brian was really talented. But over the years Pet Sounds has gotten the same treatment from critics that they've given to a lot of other mediocre albums from minority and female artists, that just weren't very good. ...think of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", "The Miseducation of Lauren Hill", Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life", Joni Michell's "Blue", Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp a Butterfly" (come on! SERIOUSLY?) Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved a Man the way I Love You"... A lot of these albums outright suck.
To add, I dont think Pet Sounds is a bad album, just very overrated. Is it a top 100 album? I don't think it is, but certainly better than everything I just listed.

You obviously have the right to your opinion, but I think you are missing the fact that Pet Sounds came out in 1966 and the studio innovation, the complex harmonies and the complex arrangements are what make it so great. Also the fact that Brian bared his soul on the album is awesome too. It isn’t my favorite Beach Boys album, I like the finished Smile better, but I can see why it gets ranked so high on almost every list.

Understood
I do have a lot of their stuff on album and cd. They're the type of group that I tend to throw on one of their greatest hits more often than any of their studio albums. I still play The Very Best of the Beach Boys from 2001 a lot.

Gotcha. And I love their albums from Pet Sounds to Holland the best and love their deeper cuts.

I always thought it was hilarious that Ricky Fataar from The Ruttles was actually part of the Beach Boys for a little while. I think he was on Holland.

Yep, he and Blondie Chaplin were on Holland and Carl and the Passions. I think Dennis injured himself and couldn’t play the drums so they added Fataar and then got Blondie to give them a little edge.

I think Love You is an underrated record... their synth pop record, so to speak...
