JRAD is certainly the top jam band currently touring, but it's not a crazy concept for a side project to be better than the original band.

CATS is the Neal Casal vehicle that drove the Fare Thee Well set breaks. As it goes, one of the Dead member's kids heard it, liked it, passed it along to the big names, and they had CATS do the set break.
