I find it to be one of the most manufactured and sterile sounding rock albums of all time... and I while I don't hate them or any song in particular... its an automatic station changer for me...

I'll die with you on that hill. It's up there with if I never hear Boston again, I'll be ok. It's just on that level of overplayed that only a few bands have achieved with me. Don't hate them, just can't listen to them because if you turn on any classic rock station, you're bound to hear a song off that first album within 45 minutes.

I’m with you, but I think the reason we flip the channel has more to with it being the ultimate butt rock anthem that is way overplayed on 97.1 Classic Rock station from any American city.
Imagine being young in the 70s, it was probably pretty epic

Yeah exactly this. I remember it being played on the radio all the time as a kid, maybe that's why it feels so overplayed now.

But zero passion or emotion.

If this is the only fault anyone can find with it.

Not even sure why that matters.

It may not matter to you. But some people value passionate/emotional playing and singing over pure technical proficiency.

It's only 8 songs, just under 38 minutes. Every song has received significant AOR/classic rock radio airplay, pretty much since it was released.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Smokin' at first, but it has grown on me.

For a debut album, it is difficult to overrate this one. Literally the only other debut album that really stands out, with hindsight, for me at least, is Peal Jam Ten.

Another one I can play start to finish and like every song.

Great album, but there are some very skippable tracks, IMHO.

There are many very good debut albums. Age at realese has a lot to do with how many grade them.

My top three are
The Cars- just incredible
Aerosmith- exceptional
Boston- clear crisp rock & roll

Not a bad song on any of them.
These are just my choices. They came out from my 13-18 age .
