Bose soundbar vs 5.1 speakers

Since this board is full of music lovers I figured I could get some good input here. Here is the scenario. You have $2000 to spend on home audio. Do you connect the full screen you already have to a Bose soundbar or good 5.1 speakers with a receiver?

Sonos Playbar, Sub and 2 Play 3’s.

Get the Bose soundbar system, it has a wireless sub and two remote rear speakers. Won’t give you true 5.1, but for that price you’re getting very good movie and music quality.

One of my all-time favorite purchases.

Since I started building my system and researching home audio, I saw more and more folks bashing Bose quality. I just figured these comments were just sort of a hipster "I'm too cool to buy that common brand" kind of shite as opposed to Bose actually being awful.
I used to have a pair of 601s and 301s, both series iii. Pretty damn good speakers! Then I got a new pair of 301s as a gift/reward through work, hooked them up, and was REALLY disappointed. Sounded absolutely awful...little bass, muffled highs. I realized those forum comments weren't just hipster-types being dicks.
Run from Bose.

Listen to Marco. SVS makes some awesome speakers.
There is absolutely no comparison to a separate system versus soundbar set up. The biggest reason is stereo separation. The sound bars just aren't wide enough to give a proper soundstage.

I have a Klipsch soundbar and sub and I love it for movies and music
That being said in a bigger space I'd probably want more speakers
