Tickets on sale Friday, August 12
I thought about seeing at the Saenger last fall but I decided against it for whatever reason.
For those of you who attended, could you please elaborate on his performance? I know his voice sounds pretty crappy these days but how were the arrangements and instrumental performances?

I've seen him twice. Both were awful.
Once was around 93 or 94, the other time was around 2001 or 2002. First time was an arena show, second was at a music festival.
I think he'd be fine in a theater setting with an acoustic guitar and subdued backing band. He was plugged in trying to play rock music both times I saw him, and it just didn't translate well.

the setlist for the current tour is available on line and it rarely varies
his voice and vocal phrasing are about what you'd expect
his band is incredible
go to say you went and check it off your list
in a room with Dylan is a good place to be regardless

cgrand is spot on above. Don't go expecting a greatest hits show because that's not happening. Otherwise, the band is really good and it's Dylan.

This will be after the concerts in Indio, though. So it's possible that he could change up the set between now and then. I wouldn't expect a greatest hits show either way.

He's playing in Shreveport at Municipal the night before.

Even when he plays the hits he sings them like hes trying to draw you offsides. Cant really get into it. He did "Ballad of a Thin Man" that was boss but hard to vibe with.

And if I'm not mistaken, this is his first time playing in Baton Rouge since 1978 in the PMAC.

Yea, don't try even to try sing along. It's been like that for a long time.

Saw him at Audubon Zoo in '88. Interesting to say the least. Band was great, I think G.E. Smith was leader. Good setlist, but as was mentioned, don't try to sing along or understand the lyrics.
He changes verses / times / lyrics on the fly, adds, subtracts verses as well. Didn't play very long (15 or so songs), not much talking between songs either.
Still nice to say you saw a legend.

I'm as torn about seeing him now as I ever was. I love his music but I know about his interaction with backing bands which comes across almost like sabotage. I can deal with the most unorthodox of styles but I have a hard time understanding how constantly faking the band out is a wise approach.
I always have a hard time deciphering whether the negative opinions of his live shows are the usual duncecappy "he caint sing!" bullshite (as if he's trying to compete with Pavarotti or something), or if it's an actual shite show because the arrangements are some kind of fricked up game of Simon Says.

I will expand on my earlier post on the 2 Dylan shows I've been to.
First one was an arena show. He and the band came out, and the sound from everyone was horrible. It was like they didn't even do a sound check and they were adjusting levels on the fly. Took 4 or 5 songs for the sound to sound even close to a decipherable song. Even then, it wasn't great. Dylan's guitar was turned up way too high, but maybe it was where we were sitting. We couldn't even hear him singing. The backing band didn't sound horrible, but it was just an odd mix to me. His guitar was just so in your face and LOUD. We left about 45 minutes into his set, as were a lot of other people.
Second time I saw him was at a festival - City Stages in downtown Birmingham. He was the headliner that night, and we got there late, so we were way in the back, and it was very crowded. That probably had a lot to do with our perception of the show. There was another act playing a couple of blocks away we could hear that was interfering with his act. So maybe that critique isn't fair. I've seen people that were closer to the stage say it was a good show. We only hung around for 3 or 4 songs, and I couldn't even tell you what songs they were.
