Seriously, I just heard that teh B0lly is putting out yet another album capitalizing on the Smashing Pumpkins name.
Tommy Lee joins Smashing Fumpkins
Seriously, Billy, you have 0 credibility left.

Capitalizing on the name? No more than any other famous band. He started the band and can do what he wants. It's not like Alice in Chains or Blind Melon still trying to make money off their bands name without a key person from the original band.

Watching the Guitar Center Sessions with his Larry Byrd colored jellygut in a Keith Richards sized shirt was painful.

He's said several times that he does this type of stuff just to piss people off.
Just like that.

Of course that's why he does it.

A better comparison would be if Jerry Cantrell was the only member of AIC still remaining.

I wonder if Tommy will rap on the album

Quite possibly the most over-rated drummer in music history.

But duuuuuuuude, he can play drums while floating in the air and spinning around and stuff.....
You also have to include the guy from Def Leopard. Losing an arm was the best thing to ever happen to his cred.

I wish thedoc were still around to see this statement.

Wrong. Cantrell is still there..

He didn't look good, but I thought the music was good, which is what I care about. I actually thought Oceania was pretty good.

And the original drummer
And the bass player, Mike Inez, has been with them since '93

I haven't listened to it yet, but David Bottrill produced it, so it will at least sound good from a recording standpoint. Billy is still a talented guitarist, but his ideas are getting kind of bland and he's definitely working with lesser musicians than he has in the past.

Don't really agree with this. I won't say his ideas are good, but they are not boring. They are just crazy and stupid. The bassist and other guitarist are way better today than when he had Darcy and James, but there is no replacing Chamberlain on the drums.

I remember in 98 when he got Aronoff to bolt the Fogerty gig for their summer tour. Pumpkins were killing it back then, though.
In Lee's defense, he does play in a cage and is filled with rage. And yeah, Billy should maybe split that next sandwich with Michael Stipe.
Sorry for both of those. Billy was a legit writer, and SP was a pretty cool band in the day.

You're missing the point. Staley was the lead singer and gave the band it's unique sound. It just seems cheap to replace him with somebody who sounds similar. Just start a new band. Same with Blind Melon.

Cantrell did a lot of vocals plus a lot of harmonizing with Staley plus he's the main songwriter. Not the same as Blind Melon at all.

I know. I'm not saying they are the same, but it's still similar. Blind Melon has all it's other original members and Hoon didn't write all the music for them either.
FWIW I would be more OK with AIC just having Jerry take over all vocals. His voice is great.

eh, yes and no.
i think if you go back and listen to him on Motley Crue's first album you'll see he has an awful lot of talent, but over the years it was either misused or held back via drugs.
