Just saying I'm not really a Tool fan at all and I knew thats what he did at shows, I would think a fan would know it as well

Maynard's supposed stage fright started after they put out Lateralus. If you saw them before that, especially the tour where he was Reverend Maynard (summer 1998), you would have seen a totally different Maynard... a lot of crowd interaction.

It's more artistic choice than stage fright. If you want to see a show where they blow smoke up the crowd's arse and pretend to give a shite that they are in Columbus, OH and Columbus has the best crowds...go see any other band.

He has always kept his profile low, even when out front he would paint himself or do characters most of the time.

If you want to see a mind blowing show that is focused on the music and experience not the individual band members' egos, go see Tool.

With that said, Tool is a money making platform for Maynard, his passion is wine and puscifer. He's much more into his Puscifer shows. APC he is towards the back of the stage in the shadows as well.

Also, regarding not facing the crowd, that has to do with people using flash cameras and/or idiots with laser pointers. Apparently he is epileptic and doesn't advertise it. He mentioned it briefly in a recent interview on Joe Rogan's podcast show.

I'll second the Tool hate. I saw them in Birmingham around 2002, and Maynard kept his back to the crowd almost the entire time -- zero energy.

I have seen them so many times, guess too many.

Every time is great for me... But I would have to say the best show of theirs that I have seen would have to be 10' New Orleans, the energy in there was fricking crazy.

I will check them out any time they play within a few hours drive of me.

told me APC is his passion while Tool was for the money. This was back in 09.

Not anymore... Puscifer is by far his passion, followed by his Winery...

frick, Maynard is near 50, his desires have changed and I don't blame the guy. The TOOL album that comes out this spring will def be their last and you bet your arse, I will see them 3-4 times when they tour again.

Maynard's extreme stage fright is pretty common knowledge.

bullshite... I think Maynard has evolved and taken on the approach that TOOL doesn't need a crazy frontman with the attention all on him. Its about the experience and the music.

If you have seen APC and Puscifer, he is out front, rocking out, enjoying the hell out of himself.

I have fallen in love with Puscifer over the past 2yrs. I'd put them above APC.

I don't see how anyone could say a TOOL show is a letdown... I guess if you had very high hopes of hearing something new and they did the usual set list.

But a TOOl show is better than 90% of the other shows out there.

Regardless of it being actual stage fright or an artistic decision the fact that Maynard keeps his back to the crowd most of the time is common knowledge.

If a person uses that as a reason not to like their show then he obviously doesn't know much about Tool to begin with.

The only part I disagree with is the "most of the time" comment. I think it's only been a handful of times. For the 6 shows I've seen, he's never done it. He does stay in the shadows on a podium near the drummer though.

There is a reason their shows still sell out in a matter of minutes, even 6+ years away from their latest album. It's not because they have a reputation for letting people down.

This is the problem, I don't want to hear anything new. I've seen them three times and heard exactly one song from Undertow. It'd be a lot better if they didn't play anything off Lateralus or 10,000 Days.

C&C Music Factory was supposed to perform at my high school and they never showed.

They left Johnny O holding the bag.

The Cars

Music was outstanding but they had no stage appeal and zero show. This was during their great years of the early 80s and I just expected more.

Hank Jr

Got dragged to this in Lexington. He stopped after the second song and sat down on a stool. He was trashed. He got into an argument with some fools who were fighting by the stage and was telling them to do what he said because he was Entertainer of the Year and some other slurred crap.

Commodores

Bought tix and went to see them. Lionel Richie had left the group and I didnt know it.

311

good music, not great I thought they would be better live.
