Big K.R.I.T.: why is this guy so underrated?

Everything this guy has done has been amazing, and he's been consistent. Definitely is the true definition of Hip Hop with his soulful lyrics and story telling.
Is it because rap has moved past his type of rhymes? Honestly, I believe if Krit had come along during the times of UGK, Outkast, Scarface, etc, he would be regarded as one of the best ever.

Definitely one of the best right now. Top 3 IMO

don't get me wrong, i love big KRIT, but he is more of an inspirational rapper/storyteller and that type of rap gets old real quick in the sense that after you hear the song 2-3 times you don't really want to hear it again IMO because you've already memorized the story
that being said he's got an undeniable flow and "Country shite" is one of my favortie songs of all time

He's not underrated IMO. He's been featured on several albums from the Roots, Phonte, to mention a few. He's not on the radio, but you don't need to be nowadays. What would you like to see him do?
Live from the underground was a good album, but his two previous "mixtapes" were better than his debut album

It's because he's not doing the radio music BS. He's sticking to his style and I love that. He gets featured quite a bit.
A$AP Rocky said he had the best verse on 1 Train and I agree.
Like you said though, if he was around during the 90's, he'd be huge right now. He's def at the top of my list.

People are too busy listening to guys like Macklemore and other flavors of the month (Chief Keef)
Easily my favorite song of his. You feature that many awesome rappers along with A$ap and you get one amazing song

Honestly, I've always liked KRIT, but he's become stale as an artist, IMO. Each of his projects are solid, but he hasn't really evolved as an artist. You can take songs from his recent album and place them on a previous project of his and they'll fit right in. That's a problem.
He's a good producer, but it might take him getting some beats from other producers (been in the studio with Mike Will recently) to grow and diversify his ability. It might take him working with different rappers with different styles from different regions like Rocky, Cole, Kendrick, etc.
I don't know. That's just my take on where he stands as an artist. I still listen to his projects from time to time and songs like The Vent are my favorites of all-time, but I can never listen to his stuff for an extended period without getting tired of it and moving on to another artist.

I think that's what it is. While I think it is awesome that a rapper makes his own beats, he is going to always like the same sound that he puts out.
While a lot of his stuff sounds similar, that sound is one great sound. If he is doing stuff with Mike Will, I can't wait to hear that. Mike Will is easily in the top 3 of producers so that will be interesting to see
New song from K.R.I.T's new mixtape:
Shine On
I swear I think Bun B might be the best "featured" rapper of all time

I look at it like Curren$y. He's doing the same thing he always does. It works for him and his fans. K.R.I.T. Is doing something along those lines as well. He's doing what he is passionate about and he and his fans are enjoying it.

Hip Hop is meant to be seen in a club imo. Not a festival at 2pm in the afternoon.
