She's good looking and makes decent music. Not a bad choice.

It does drive home just how truly bad popular music has become when Beyonce is considered legendary must see Super Bowl entertainment.

Beyonce>>>>>>>>Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc according to this generation. WOW....is all you can say.

P.S. We've gone PAST the twilight zone when Van Halen is considered "old white music". Lots of clueless people out there now unfortunately who probably don't remember a time in their lives when music actually required the talent to actually play an instrument.

1. Van Halen played/plays mainstream (and mostly boring), middle class, white boy rock, fronted by a Jewish clown. Yeah, yeah . . . Eddie can "shred" it . . . whatever. It seems to me that they appeal primarily to guys who grew up during one of the dry periods or down cycles for great rock and roll and had to settle for Van Halen.

2. Beyonce' is more current, has a great voice and, yes, has more mass appeal for a Super Bowl appearance. I've never owned or played a Beyonce' album, and I couldn't name more than a couple of her tunes. But she's a good choice for the Super Bowl and what its entertainment seems to be about.

unless you grew up in the 80's and was a douche i doubt you can even name a van halen song.

Beyonce is the premiere song bird of our time. I think she'll put on a great show. she the new diana ross for our generation.

Unless you was a internet clown popping off at the blowhole I doubt anyone else would ever agree with that.

Go learn some RnR history from someone other than a 15 yr old. And pull your frickin pants up while you're at it

I'd probably compare them to guns and roses I guess.Idk. But everyone from back then can name all their popular songs. And there was a SHITLOAD of them. And everyone was a douche back then It was the 80's

Guns and Roses was a real RnR band , their music holds up and everybody knows gnr's songs, Van Halen is not even in the same galaxy as gnr.

if you like van halen that all fine, but to say they would be relevant for a super bowl halftime show is way off.

Never said that. In the first van halan/SB halftime thread I said

quote:

Who decides this shite???

God omighty why do they have to make a mockery of one of the best nights of the year.

Maybe guns n roses is a bad comparison. Van halan didn't take themselves nearly that serious. And I was a real little kid, so I'm just going by what I remember. But they were a great bunch of musicians with a GOAT level guitarist. But that's just like my opinion and all

Today? yeah, it'd be embarrassing to see. I actually turned down free tickets to see them at the beginning of summer in Atl

That said, after she got that beak fixed...

Man, mainstream rock fans are a touchy bunch. How dare someone listen to anything else? Beyonce has a songwriter credit on eight #1 hits, which is a lot. Sure, she’s not Willie Nelson, but she cranks out popular music and she can actually sing. All the Single Ladies? Crazy in Love? Beautiful Liar?

I’m not the biggest R&B fan in the world, but I can appreciate a good song in a different genre. Did you see here sing Etta James’ catalog in Cadillac Records? She’s got a voice that rivals the old blues greats (someone else compared her to Diana Ross… that’s fair, I prefer the Etta James comp, but Diana Ross makes sense with the girl group history).

The Super Bowl halftime is a big, glitzy production. Why wouldn’t I want a big, glitzy act? Hey, no one’s asking Fugazi to play it (and they’d tell them to screw off anyway), so my favorite bands certainly aren’t ever gonna play the Super Bowl. I have no problem with it.

Van Halen is a big, goofy arena act that is 20 years past its sell-by date. I don’t think they are as good as VH fans do, but they were a huge act for awhile. They also haven’t had a hit since the early 90s. If we’re bring back a goofy 80s act, why not Journey? At least Beyonce is contemporary.

But now that I think about it, Aretha Franklin would be awesome.
