Best songs about love ever written

Not "best love songs." That's too narrow. While that can fall into this thread, I am intending to open this up about real love including all of its bad, not just the sappy good.

Every so often I get completely hooked on Led Zepplin's "Rain Song." I am in that stage again right now. This is one of those timeless songs that I simply never grow tired of and actually get addicted to when I do hear it.


I contend this is the greatest "love song" ever written. Sure there are many out there, but this one is king. Lyrically it captures the true nature of love in that it's an absolute rocky path that hopefully never ends. They use seasons to express this, that seasons are cyclical, always come and go and that sure when winter is here things are rough, but then spring comes and you are now stronger together as a result of all that you just experienced together.

This song works for all relationships. Friends, siblings, parents and children. It's pure brilliance and absolute beauty in its accuracy and poetry. The music itself is a move between seasons, and it captures the essence wonderfully.
