One of my all time favs:

And this loneliness won't leave me alone (Otis Redding, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay)

Another:
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream (Led Zeppelin, Kashmir)

Another:
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year (Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here)

And many more...

Pvt. Cowboy - The Missouri Dog Song

Every time I go to town
The boys start kickin my dog around
I don't care if he is a hound
You better stop kickin my dog around

Come on blue.
You good dog you.

One of my favorites. Another is:

quote:

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus, You've got to help me make a stand.
You've just got to see me through another day.
My body's aching and my time is at hand and I won't make it any other way.
- James Taylor, Fire and Rain

ETA: And you should spell "souls" both ways in the lyric, as it is a double entendre - souls/soles (the "fish" for the fishbowl).

If any of these kids making "music" today woke up with 1/16 of Roger Water's or James Taylor's talent, they would die from outright shock.

Needlework the way, never you betray
life of death becoming clearer
Pain monopoly, ritual misery
chop your breakfast on a mirror
Taste me you will see
More is all you need
You're dedicated to
How I'm killing you

Everybody knows this song

why do you waste your time
thinkin bout your reputation
trying to meet an expectation
wonderin what they’re gonna say
when everyone you ever known
is headed for a headstone
I don’t wanna give the end away
but we’re gonna die one day

Have you seen the well-to-do
Up on Lennox Avenue
On that famous thoroughfare
With their noses in the air

High hats and arrow collars
White spats and fifteen dollars
Spending ev'ry dime
For a wonderful time

If you're blue and
You don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where Harlem sits
Puttin' on the Ritz

Spangled gowns upon the bevee of high browns
From down the levee
All misfits
Puttin' on the Ritz

That's where each and ev'ry Lulu-Belle goes
Ev'ry Thursday evening with her swell beaus
Rubbing elbows

Come with me and we'll attend
The jubilee, and see them spend
Their last two bits
Puttin' on the Ritz

Reuben treats his sweetie to
Highbrow drinks and oyster stew
Though he knows quite well his dash
Means six days of warmed-up hash

Five spots they'll have to borrow
Dry spots can come tomorrow
But nobody cares
Tonight they're all millionaires

If you're blue and
You don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where Harlem sits
Puttin' on the Ritz

Spangled gowns upon the bevee of high browns
From down the levee
All misfits
Puttin' on the Ritz

That's where each and ev'ry Lulu-Belle goes
Ev'ry Thursday evening with her swell beaus
Rubbing elbows

Come with me and we'll attend
The jubilee, and see them spend
Their last two bits
Puttin' on the Ritz

Intelligence, a swiss army knife and charm

Billy Bragg

quote:

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

Billy Bragg

quote:

I'm mean 'n I'm bad, y'know I ain't no sissy
Got a big-titty girly by the name of chrissy
Talkin' about her 'n my bike 'n me...
'n this ride up the mountain of mystery, mystery

I noticed even the crickets
Was actin' weird up here
And so I figured I might
Just drink a little beer
I said, "gimme summa that what yer suckin' on..."
But there was no reply
'cause she was gone...

"where's those titties that I like so well
'n my goddamn beer!"
Is what I started to yell, then I heard this noise
Like a crunchin' twig, 'n up jumped the devil...he's about this big...

Ah, the moon's too bright
The chain's too tight
The beast won't go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep
Ah but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or I'd crawl to you baby
And I'd fall at your feet
And I'd howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And I'd claw at your heart
And I'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please, please
I'm your man

I thought it was "crying won't help you, praying won't do you no good" unless we are thinking about different songs.

Tears on the mausoleum floor
Blood stains the Colosseum doors
Lies on the lips of a priest
Thanksgiving disguised as a feast

Two tattoos: one read "No Apologies"
The other said "Love is Cursed by Monogamy"
It’s something that the pastor don’t preach
It’s something that a teacher can’t teach
When we die the money we can’t keep
But we probably spend it all cause the pain ain’t cheap, preach

- Jay Z and Kanye West, No Church in the Wild

Seems like, street lights, glowin
Happen to be just like moments, passin
In front of me so I hopped in, the cab and
I paid my fare see I know my destination
But I'm just not there

- Kanye West, Street Lights
