60's Beatles
70's Zep
80's I abstain
90's man is this really tough, just know it isn't Nirvana. I lean towards NIN
00's Radiohead.

Mine:

60's - The Beatles
70's - Led Zeppelin
80's - Guns N Roses
90's - Pearl Jam
00's - I really don't think any music from this period will withstand the test of time so I don't care to pick one.

This is obviously just my opinion

60s - Beatles
70s - bowie (honestly this is so hard, ill just go with this)
80s - talking heads/the smiths
90s - phish/pavement
00s - radiohead (even though my favorite album is OK computer)

I know I kinda broke the rules but its just too impossible to narrow down a decade to one band

Bands by the decade for Rock n Roll.

50s Buddy Holly and The Crickets
60s Grateful Dead
70s Led Zepplin (no question)
80s The Talking Heads/Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
90s The Smashing Pumpkins/Pearl Jam/Nirvana
00s Radiohead

Why haven't we done the 50s? I'd say Jerry Lee Lewis or Chuck Berry

#1) 1970's

#2) 1960's

#3) 1980's

The music of the 90's & 00's should be wiped from memory wish thankfully in time it probably will and bands like Creed and many others of that time frame can burn in OBSCURITY HELL.

Yes popular music sucks the last 2 decades but we are in a Golden Age of music because so much is easily accessible.

& 00's

the music of the 00s was awesome just not the mainstream music. A lot of the bands and DJs that I listen to today were starting out during this time. Much better than the shite in the 80s.

00's were the worst years of music ever. 80's probably second only to the 70's.

you could reverse those decades and make the same statement...

80s music was some of the greatest music around and what really defined my musical taste... I'm not talking about the mainstream music.

I'd even argue the mainstream music of the 80s was MUCH better than that of the 00s...

It's all relative to age and when you "came up"

If Creed is the first thing that comes to mind for music from the 90s and 00s, then the problem is you, not the music.

I think the 80s are the best decade for music, and that's even with the horrid stain of hair metal. The 80s had an almost unimpeachably great underground which was railing against, let's face it, a pretty great mainstream. MTV sort of changed all the rules of pop music and for a few years there, literally anything could become a hit. The astounding diversity of sound in the mainstream, much less in the underground scene, is unmatched in music history. The 80s were great.

I don't get the love for the 70s, which I find has benefited from a mass psychosis among all music fans to agree never to speak of about 50% of 70s music ever again. It's like we forgot about the scourge of soft rock. and you think pop country is bad now? Holy crap. Yes, Zeppelin was awesome. They were also the exception and didn't have many radio hits.

I tend to agree that the 80's were the best when pushed, but the 70's were fantastic. Scourge? Are you hating on England Dan and Seals/Crofts type stuff. If so, I'm going to e-beat your arse.

I understand your sentiment in this statement but to address this I'll say when I think of music from the 90's & 00's (given I was born in '88 and what I'd be exposed to) I think of crappy music and the most crappy of music that I can think of from that time is Creed.

Also my co worker loves that shite and listens to nothing but Creed, Nickleback, 3 Doors Down & etc. all day that shite drives me crazy.

exactly my point about the 90's & 00's ... well 00's for sure.

It's like during this time we as a mass culture went musically stupid for a while.

And to give you a reference point to my taste I grew up listening to about everything but my favorite and what I always gravitated to was classic rock, Beatles, Stones, Animals, etc., and honestly I can listen to about anything from Classical music, to rock, country, rap, indie, bluegrass, techno, dub-step, jam bands ... honestly anything but I hate the music from that era of late 90's into the 00's.

Well I guess minus old school rap which is the shite.
