Beatles question for older posters

What's the real deal on the Yoko Ono thing. I heard someone mention the other day the old line about "imagine how different rock n roll history would be if not for that bitch"
Ok. Is this just a fanatical perspective or is there some validity to it. Werent they already on a trajectory to go their own way kinda or do most people from back then think the band still had some great albums in them

Popular theory was that when John hooked up with Yoko, he started feuding with Paul and the end was in sight. Probably overstates her roll in the split. Given the problems with Harrison (he felt like the band wasn't giving him his due and wouldn't use more of his songs on the albums); coupled with the fact that Paul had already released a solo album and John was about to do the same, the split appeared to be inevitable. Abbey Road was the last album they recorded (although Let It Be was released afterwards), so its likely that if they could have stayed together as a band, that some great material would have been released.

This is correct. She became a problem once Lennon started bringing her to recording sessions. The band had a "rule" that they wouldn't bring their spouse/girlfriend to the sessions. When they were in the studio, it was all business. But when Yoko started coming, not only was she there, but she started giving her two cents on what they were doing.
But, Harrison was fed up with the fact that he wasn't taken seriously enough as a writer, Paul wanted to keep rolling with pop/love songs, and Lennon wanted to go in another direction plus he was all about Yoko.
*I read once that when Harrison walked out of the White Album sessions, Lennon recommended that Eric Clapton should replace Harrison. But, I think Clapton's blues background wouldn't have worked well and Harrison ended up coming back anyway.

1) Clapton in the Beatles? Yeahhhhhhh no. Would have been a terrible fit.
2) George was right then and he is now. How that man is so underrated is beyond me.

He didn't have many songs on each of the albums, but each one that made it was legit. His solo album All Things Must Pass is the best solo album any of the Beatles recorded and is right up there with some of the best Beatles albums.

And, from the sublime to the surreal, Clapton was fooling around with Harrison's then wife, Patti. During the White Album sessions, tensions were so bad that most of the album was recorded with only one Beatle in the studio at any given time. Amazing what they accomplished given the environment.

As much as I hate it these days, Rolling Stone released a very good, exhaustive, compilation of the Beatles a few months ago.
To this day, when you play Sgt Pepper, Abbey Road, or Magical Mystery Tour, it rivals anything still being released. Plus, the simple majesty of Revolver, Rubber Soul, Help, Beatles for Sale, etc still holds up some 50 years later.

I read recently that Lennon was drawn to dominating mother figures.
(he often referred to Yoko as mother)
Anyway, If it wasn't Yoko, some other type 'A' bitch would have come along at ended them anyway

She was merely a symptom, imo. The problems went beyond her.
The sad thing is that if Lennon had not been killed, I'm absolutely convinced The Beatles would have recorded together in the 80's and perhaps even would have toured.
