Then that is the Rickenbacker 4001/4003 series.

side note: never was a strat fan.

Unequivocally.

Though I shall say that I disagree with your calling strat/les Paul the 'Holy Grail' for a guitar player. I think that also lies somewhere between the Rick 330/360, PRS any-non-SE model.

And TheDoc, if I found that for $500, I would definitely consider. You seem to find particularly good deals on equipment. Other than Craigslist and the eBay store you mentioned, do you have any hot tips on where to find cheaper stuff consistently, or have you just pulled the trigger at the right time?

ETA- I suppose you can argue your custom shop strat and les pauls as the ones I mentioned are mostly semi-hollows. But your run of the mill $800 Les Paul and American Strat are not the best competitors to the aforementioned without, at the very least, knowing how to set up your own guitar and possibly switch around PUPs and pots.

did you know that rickenbacker invented the first electric guitar?

true story

and it's been an american company for it's entire history.

as far as deals, it's mostly just scouring craigslist along the gulf coast. sometimes you have to drive a couple of hours

nothing like a tube amp though... nothing is the same as firing up tubes and the tone you get from it.

my buddy is a luthier and he is gassing hard for an original 60's jaguar right now... looking at around 3k right now...

that and the mustangs are much better guitars than the strat or tele's IMO... i'd rank the tele over the strat as well.

honestly, I do like the coffin basses.

I like the flying V basses too. screams rock and roll.

to hopeful: LINK

this just came up on CL recently.. selling the amp and cab for 1500, but I think that's quite overpriced and could most likely talk him down to 1200 for the pair.

800 is what the V4B has been going for recently, and that cab is worth 400 is a 4x12 is what you're going for...

I sold my old 610 cab and looking at having a custom vintage style cab built from fliptops.net

Thanks man. I usually check craigslist from Houston to Pensacola when I'm really wanting something. This may finally be the time when my money and my ability to drive to a place like Kaplan coincide.

That's a beautiful rig. Do you all use any effects pedals? I enjoy my EBS bass iq, Russian muff and Carbon copy analog delay. None of these are a necessity but are very fun to play around with.

I use to use a delay pedal, a big muff, a sansamp, and a moogerfooger 102 ring mod... but I sold all of it except the sansamp which has broken twice on me now and wish I would have sold it as well.

looking at getting an overdrive pedal...or a rat... really liked the rat for bass when I tried out my friends
