Those qtr pounders are some nice pick ups. I have them in my Peavey. My favorite are Duncans antiquity II. Great warm tone.

I had an old music man sterling like a 1998. It was sunburst.

I absolutely love maple. If my next purchase isn't a Custom 24 it'll be a butterscotch American Tele with a maple fretboard.

Not exactly sure what you're getting at here. If you're talking about a wildly popular, affordable bass that kids work toward, buy, and never have to replace, it's probably a Fender P or Jazz bass.
If you're talking about the highest quality basses and talking to professional bass players about what they want, it's a Rickenbacker 4001 (or 4003...I always forget which is 'nicer'. But really anyone would take either), Warwick Streamer, Music Man Stingray, or maybe, just maybe the G&L L-2(0/5)00 (though it's really a step above American p/jazz, but probably a half step below the others mentioned here).

Go to the Study Bass website. Read it. Practice all the things they give you. When you understand everyone on that site, you're an average to pretty decent bass player.
There's also a fret board 'printer' on the site that lets you dial in the instrument, tuning, and scale you want. Learn the pentatonic patterns. You can really just sub in anything in that scale at any point under a song for a more interesting bassline (though you'll eventually learn (really just by hearing) which notes sound 'sweet' or 'sour' under each chord).

they are equal in "niceness" but a little different with pickup output and spacing from the neck.
i've owned both 4003 and 4001, and I kept the 4001.. fwiw

I seemed to remember liking the 4001 over the 4003, having owned neither. My next bass will be a 4001, preferably in Fireglo.
You still running that Orange Bass Terror head? How do you like it? Got a 400w GK Gold Line 410 cab and am looking for just the right head for it in the sub-$600 range.
ETA- of course, only way to pick up the Orange BTH 500 for that is used, so the question is more along the lines of 'is it worth waiting and searching for' as opposed to the others that are in that category both new and used.

I bought the orange new on eBay from crazy Dave for sub $600
Ended up selling it and buying an SVT. Sold the SVT and now have a V4B. It's the best amp I've ever played.
